Hi Roger:

I notice you are from Temple City, CA. While I now live in Arizona I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley, so I am very familiar with your neck of the woods.

A very good friend and I were talking the other day, and it had come to our attention, that the range facility at Fish Canyon is closing. Is that true? If so where are you guys going to shoot now? We have a lot of fond memories of the San Gabriel Valley Gun Club, and the Fish Canyon Range. When I lived in Azusa, we went up there several times a week to shoot, skeet, the duck tower, or work up loads on the rifle range.

If it is closing, we feel it will be a sad day for shooters in So Cal, HELL shooters everywhere.

San Gabriel will indeed close.
I have a money donation box on the front counter and there has been a total of $1.27 and a handful of gum wrappers given over the past 2 months.

I currently shoot at West End Gun Club.
Just at the base of the Lytle Creek Canyon.
Pretty nice place plus you can go there privately on you day off.

BTW, there arent any shooters left in California to feel sorry for.

Well, business sucks for one.

I am doing only a fraction of the business I once did, and gunsmithing too is almost nonexistant.

It has gone from 1-2 barreling or bedding jobs a week, to 1-2 per year.

This is not a sudden thing, but a steady relocation of dedicated firearms enthusiasts over the past 15 or so years, to places outside of California.

Why do you think most of the Western States are seeing such an increase in population? It sure isnt all of the illegals moving away.

Roger & Spencer:

Thanks for the reply, I am one of those guys who "fled" California. My best friend Jeff Orr, moved over here in 1975. Since then I have been trying to move to Arizona, so I could enjoy a little more freedom. In Jan of 1995 I finally was able to move here, man have I been happy, I even bought an AR15 this year, LOL.

Roger, I don't know Barry, but you never know I might run into him at the Rio Salado Gun Club Some time.
