I started with a starting load of WC-844 in the 22-250 and got very large fireballs at the end of the barrel. Group size with this is great but I don't like the fireball. Pressure looks fine at the primer and recoil is normal. I have seen fireballs with 357 Mag and 7.62X54 but never with a 22-250. I have used this powder with the 223, 308, and the 7.62X39 and it has worked fine with them. Also a Mag primer was used in the 22-250. I would like to know what caused the fireball and what can I do to fix it.

I use both 844 and 846, and yes they do have an impressive "fireball factor". Why more so in the 22-250 than others, I don't have an answer. Mag primers, barrel length maybe? I have a short (16 1/2") Mauser in 7.65x53 and when using 844 the fireball is about the size of a beach ball. Very impressive!

Probably because it's a double base ball powder. Nothing wrong with the fireball except maybe giving position away for military users, but they have flash hiders on their rifles.

Add a clamp on compensator to your rifle, 844 is great powder. Hand loads...... Never settle for OEM
