I just acquired a 308 and could only come up with 10 pieces of brass laying around, so I took 15 more cases from my father in law. I ran all through the sizing die. My 10 had to be and I thought his was but wanted to run them through anyway and after doing this I measured them. My 10 measured 2.015 which is right according to what I read in the manual. The brass I got from dad measured 2.005 I looked and one of my manuals state that 2.015 is limit and should not be any shorter. Whats the heads up on this? Aside from the fact that they definately in another pile as far as keeping them seperated. Is it safe to use these at 2.005? For the 308 Win the maximum case length is 2.015" and the trim length is 2.005" Assuming they are all the same brand and you have checked them all, after sizing, for case-head separation they should be safe to mix together after you have trimmed them all back to 2.005"

I use the 2.005" as trim to length as well. I take a batch of LC military cases 1) clean them, 2) size and decap them 3) swage the primer pockets 4) trim them, and clean them again. Then I have new brass I really like to have everything the same length. Makes for better ammo and more consistent results. They should not be any longer than 2.015, shorter is OK. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. He looks like you owe him money." - Robert Ruark, Horn of the Hunter, 1953 NRA Life, SAF Life, CRPA Life, DRSS lite

Frank hit this one dead..... The shorter cases are just fine.....use them. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
