Nosler Partition 7mm 150 gr

I recently acquired 5 boxes of Nosler Partition bullets that were shipped to me from a friend. I have been thinking of switching to the 150 gr in my 280 and 7mm-08 instead of loading both the 140 gr and 160 gr Ballistic Tips and Partitions.

When they arrived I found that they are all the same lot number and were in unopened boxes. I opened one box as they were obviously older bullets and I found that they were the older style machined bullets.

With that as the current situation, here are my questions.

I use both the 280 and 7mm-08 for deer and elk. Will the 150gr bullets be an adequate hunting compromise to loading and maintaining stocks of 140 and 160 Ballistic Tips and Partitions?

I have had excellent accuracy results with the current Partitions. What type of accuracy might I expect with these older style bullets? Would I be better off selling/trading these for the newer style Partitions? Is there any collector value to the older style machined bullets?

I appreciate your thoughts and comments

The only way of knowing is to load a few up and test them at the range. If they shoot great keep them.

I doubt whether there is much nostalgic value to the machined bullets, but I have bee wrong before.

I actually favored the older style bullets in my .33806. You'll be fine w/ them. I prefer the 160gr pills in my .280 but for deer/antelope, the 150gr @ 2950fps makes sense. It's probably a better fit in the short 7-08 as well. If you don't like them, send me a pm, I'll take them off your hands. beer

I have had good results with the old 140 gr Partition in the 7mm RM. Now I have the 150 gr's that you have loaded in the 7mm-08 for woods range black bear. I always liked those old turned Noslers. Ray Atkinson says that they are soft. Maybe so but so far so good.

I never said they were soft, what I said was the older bullet blow the front partition off almost every time and penitrate like the dickens...they work, that front end blowing up inside sends chards of copper and lead in every direction and the base always punches out the other side leaving two holes....

I use the 150 gr. old style Noslers for many years in my 7x57 and no complaints...

That said, I do like the new Noslers a bit better...but either will suit me.
