I would like to work up some loads for my 24" barreled .338 WM using the 275 grain Swift bullet. Has anyone had any experience/loads with this bullet they would be willing to share?

Thanks,
Chet

Chet, This is the bullet for Alaskan Bears and the .338. My brother in law has used it to great effect up in Kotezebue, and around Canada. I'll be damned but I cannot remember the load, and I am three weeks away from my loading bench. I will send him an email and ask him to pull a slip from his cartridge boxes. Great bullet for big or tough animals.

I sent a email to Swift regarding some questions I had regarding a 175 gr A-Frame 7 Mag load. I cannot remember the gentlemans name, but he called me immediately. We discussed my question on the phone and then he followed up with an email.

A plus customer service in my books, also their loads are not watered down.

Saludos....Frank

I am not fond of the Swifts on lighter animals, but found it OK on Cape Buffalo. I like other bullets better. I don't like those smooth round expansions the swifts have, I prefer the ragged cutting edges of the Woodleighs. You get more hole and more blood.

My choice for the .338 WM is the 300 gr. Woodleigh. I have used it on about everything including Cape Buffalo and its a hammer. Its my all time elk load...I can't tell any difference in it and my 375 H&H as for as killing power. It does not have the cross section of bullet that equates to knockdown but it does have better SD and that equates to penetration, at least on paper, I doubt if that makes any difference in the field.

Thanks for the info guy's. Ray, what velocity have you been able to get with the 300 grain Woodleigh? Do you have any powders to recommend?

I am working up a load to use for Peninsula Brown bear and for moose. The Woodleigh may be a great option as well.

275 gr Swift with RL19 at max per Swift manual (I worked up and it was OK in my .338). Easily <1 moa. I've not used this on game yet, but am looking forward to doing just that.
