Just built a rifle out of my XP 100 pistol action and was wondering if anyone uses Lil Gun and what loads have worked for them? 22" Shilen barrel. All set up and ready to go. Big Grin

Hodgdon site has Fireball loads w/LilGun. Using moly'ed 40's, my loads are 0.5gr over max, but absolutely no excessive pressure signs.
Another good powder is AA1680...data available on AA's site (I use 19.0gr behind 40Vmax).
I use Rem 7-1/2 primers.
RE7 and H322 are also very useful in the Fireball.

Just began working up loads for my CZ 527 this weekend.

Started with 16 grains of Lil Gun, 40 grain Noslers and Sierras over CCI small rifle primers. The Noslers were all over the place but the Sierras showed real promise - 5 shot groups around 0.75 inch with no signs of pressure. I was not shooting over a crony, so I can only guesstimate the velocity. This was before I adjusted the trigger to remove some creep. Hopefully I can tweak the loads a bit and dial them in even further, as I prefer the performance of the Sierras to the Noslers.

And ricciardelli thanks to you for the reloading pages. I use them frequently.

Nor Cal Mikie: Welcome from all of us here on the AR Forums!
I have 2 Varmint Rifles in caliber 221 Remington Fireball and love them both!
My latest acquisition in 221 Remington Fireball is a Remington 700 Classic with a 24" factory barrel. It likes the following load: 16.0 grs. of Lil'Gun powder, pushing a 40 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet, in Remington cases with Federal 205M primers.
My other Rifle in 221 I have had since 1994. It is a Kimber Ultra Varmint Model also with a 24" barrel. It likes the following load: 16.9 grs. of IMR 4227 powder, pushing a Berger 40 gr. H.P. bullet in Remington cases with Federal 205M primers.
To tell the truth this load was developed before Lil'Gun powder was invented and if I get time this winter I just may try the Lil'Gun powder in this Rifle also.
I would suggest that you definitely try the Lil'Gun powder in your new Fireball custom Rifle.
Long live the 221 Remington Fireball!

Ricciardelli: Steve try as I might - time and again - I can not get the 221 Fireball area of your site to open up and tell me anything. When I click on the 221 Fireball heading on your link (that you posted above) all it does is repeatedly goes back to the top of the 22 caliber listings. I have tried both links and went through your disclaimer process with no luck getting at the 221 Fireball info.
Any suggestions?

Crowrifle: I now have the "key" to entry into the Ricciardelli loads suggetsions. I have been there in previous years and I must have forgotten the correct procedure.
Thank you.

That link will bring you to the .221 Fireball page, then you have to click on the bullet weight you want.

It works just fine...

I have had good luck with RL-7, H-4198, AA-1680 and VV n-120. Lil'Gun and H-4227 gave me excessive pressures before reaching maximum velocity. My gun (Rem. 700 Classic) gives 3250 with 50 grn. and 3550 with 40 grn. bullets.

Nor Cal Mikie:
Go to the top of the page and hit find and then type in .221 fireball. I hope you have plenty of time of your hands.

Thought I would try some Lil Gun so I loaded up some rounds and am headed to the range this morning to give the "New XP" rifle it's test run. Reseated all my loaded rounds to fit the short chamber. All of them seemed to work good in my rechambered Savage. The Savage has a super long throat but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Never have had any indications of high pressure. The most I could get in the case is 21.0 grs. of AA 2230C with a 45 gr. soft point bullet. Running just at 3200 FPS. Load the powder and tapped on the case to make it settle down. Goes to the bottom of the neck. I loaded 15.5 grs. of LG with a 35 gr. bullet and 15 grs. with a 45 gr. bullet. I forgot that LG is a shotgun powder and was surprised at the way it looked and fed. Not quite like my ball powders. The main thing I plan on doing is get the XP sighted in with the scope. After that I can start working on the loads. Should be a fun trip. Will keep you folks posted. And thanks for all the good info!

Well, didn't read the club newsletter. The rifle range was closed for IDPA and the pistol range was closed for Cowboy Action. Did get to see my shooting buddy and set a date for "next" Saturday. You know the routine. Shoot. BS. Shoot again. More BS. Should be a fun day!!
