I'm trying to decide between the 140gr accubond or 130 scirocco. I've heard some discussion about the ogive being too far back on the scirocco(with freebore and all), what about the accubond? I've got a great 150gr partition load and would like to work on the lighter stuff. Thanks.

Nobody can tell you which bullets will shoot in your rifle. You'll have to try them to see. However, the .270 Wby should be able to approach 3400-3500 fps with a 130 grs bullet. From what I have seen of Sciroccos, they will expand an awful lot (too much?) at those velocities, and would therefore not be my first choice. Actually, if you insist on trying another bullet, my choice would be a Barnes TSX. Nothing better at warp speed...

I'll have to agree w/ mho, if you are going to get true Weatherby performance w/ 130s, the XXX would probably be a wise choice.

The 140 ABs would probably be the best out of the two you mentioned.

Good Luck!

Vote # 3 for the triple shocks. They are the most accurate bullet in all my rifles. At that speed on close range shots you will probably get a pass thru without much expansion, almost like a FMJ, but on longer range shots the velocity will have slowed enough to expand properly. I have had the best results with the 140 grain in .277".

If you mean deer and pronghorns as "lighter stuff"....I'd say that the bullet choice is not terribly important.....they all do fine with these (so called) big game......actually they are "almost" big game and should be shot almost like varmints.

I don't have a 270 but have used the 165 gr Sciroccos in my 300Wby with great success. They are definitely more expansive than a triple shock but that seemed to help take down the two mulies, one elk and one whitetail I shot with them this year all right where they stood. This was at ranges from 90 yards to just about 500. I found them to be extremely accurate as well.

Save some money and go with the 130 grain Hornady Interbond. JMHO

I've had excellent luck with the 130 grain partitions over RL22. I've dropped two decent whitetails with that load, both bang/flops. One was 175 yds and the other was 250 yards. Both showed good expansion, penetrated both shoulders and completely devastated the boiler room. I had poor luck with the 130 grain Hornadys, over expansion and very poor penetration. I tried the original Barnes X bullets and got copper fouling like you wouldn't believe. And I haven't been able to get anything with a boat tail to group worth beans.
Whats your 150 partition load? I'm loading them over RL25 which is working well, but there's no data available so I haven't really pushed it. I got fond of that load when the whole load work up over a three grain powder rise, (about 25 shots), went into the same 1 inch group. BD

Thanks for all the info. My favorite 150 partition is 69gr of H4831 and on a good day I can get to 1/2" but most of the time it's 3/4".

I've taken two mule deer with a 150 grain Scirocco in my 7mm Rem Mag. The deep penetration , higher retained wt than an Accubond I find appealing. The last buck I shot with a scirocco was in the shoulder at about 125 yards, complete pass thru, and the buck dropped immediately.

My opinion of the Swift Scirocco is it is probably the best of the bonded bullets. People complain that it opens up more than an accubond, or interbond. But when you look at the data, it consistantly retains more weight than the Accubond, and penetrated deeper. I think there is alot of bias towards the bullet, and it is pricey, so it gets bashed alot. For a muledeer bullet, it certainly has all of the desired characteristics. On the shoulder shot I had, there wasnt much destroyed meat, so I have a real hard time buying in on the common complaint that it opens up more than the accubond, and therefore isnt as good. The fact is, most of us are Nosler or Hornady fans, and have been for years, so it is hard to accept the scirocco. Frankly, everyone throws all kinds of accolaids upon Nosler's Accubond, and I consider it the worst of the bonded bullets. Poorest retained weight, period, period.
