Depending on the bullet weight, Rel 19, or IMR 4350 will fill the bill 90% of the time.

My favoret load is 76 gr of Rel 19 and a 200 gr Hornady.

For the 225 gr bullets , I use 70 to 72 gr of 4350.

For 250 gr loads, one is temped to use 4831 or Rel 22, but that long bullet takes up too much powder space, and forces you to compress it a lot.

I started reloading with this wonderful cartridge 36 yrs. ago, to date I have owned 12 rifles so chambered. I presently have 4 Pre-64 Mod. 70 "Alaskans" and a Dakota 76 in .338. I have tried a variety of loads and this is what I have found to be best.

These are "MAX", so start about 7% lower and work up.

Nosler 250 Partition or Partition Gold Moly Free
Mag primers, I use either CCI 250 or Fed. 215M
Winchester cases
RE-22, the top is either 76 or 77 grs., depending on whether it's a regular Partition or a Gold and on the chamber-leade of the given rifle, my Dakota will shoot better than I can hold with 77 grs., Nosler Partiton Gold M.F. and my Mod. 70s take 76 grs. due to shorter throats.

The velocities range from 2700+ to close to 2800, depending on powder lot. DO NOT substitute ANY component with this load. re-work it with EVERY change of conponent, even different lots of primers, bullets and so forth. I have had no pressure problems in 12 yrs. use and I test at the hottest summer temps. Many people I know use this formula, but, YOU MUST WORK UP TO IT.

I have worked up loads with 250 Hornady Spirepoints with exactly the same specifications as the above and use these to practice. I do not think that a better load for the .338 Win. can be found; this is, however, a hard kicking, high muzzle blast load. If, you find it too much, use a 225 gr. Partition over 76 grs.---gives an easy 2800 fps and the recoil is noticeably softer.

76 gr of RL19 under a 210 gr Nosler. Does for anything that walks in NA. - Dan

This is not a max velocity load or an attempt to develop one. It�s basically a factory velocity duplication load. It does have very consistent velocities and good accuracy.

i use 70.5 gr. imr4831 oal 3.340 federal mag primers 250gr sierra bt and remington cases . this load shoots about 3/4" @ 100yrds 5 shots . Bob

This load works very well in my rifle, shoots less than a 1/2 inch consistently at 100 yds. IMR 4350 69 grains, Sierra gameking spitzer boattail 215 grains and a wlrm primer. I have a BOSS on my 338 and tuned it to the load, so I don't know if you will get similar results. Might as well give it a try!!!

I use 73gr of H4831sc behind the new Nosler 225gr Accubond. It shoots 3/4" groups out of my rifle.

David, what kinda velocities are you getting? Barrel length?
