I just bought 5- 100ea boxes of WW large rifle primers, thats all they had, and see some kind of green stuff on the anvil side. First Im thinking these are bad or something. Now Im wondering if WW puts some kind of green sealer on the anvil side now? The green stuff isnt uniformly the same on every primer. It looks like something was randomly dripped on them, some dont have any green stuff on the anvil too much and others have alot My old WW primers I have left dont have this green stuff on the anvil, and my CCI 200s are clean and dont have crap on the anvil side. Anyone else notice this?

Take a couple, seat them in empty cases, chamber the case and see if the primer pops. If it does, try half a dozen in your pet load and check performance... If nothing changes you are good to go. I don't remember seeing anything like that in Winchester primers, but it is possible they changed to a cleaner priming mix because of all the environmental hubbub, and that is what you are seeing...

I just emailed winchester and asked about this green stuff. It at first looked like the boxes got hot in the sun or wet or something and green stuff leaked out all over the anvil of some of the primers, and other primers dont have green stuff on them but it is green under them

its called copper sulfate. for some reason or another win a bit ago quite plating their primers. the priming compound combined with just moisture from the air causes the green color. you will see it a bunch on old military ammo, but it doesn't seem to make a difference in having them go off anyway, just looks like chit

Yes. In the past (white boxes) the anvil was red. Blue boxes are now green.

So do these packs of primers have storage or "self damage"? I had to pay $3.95 per 100 for these. I bought some CCI 200s 12 months ago for $2.50 per 100. The last of my 1000 brick of WWs that I have left arent green like this crap I just bought. For $3.95 per 100 I dont want some damaged product. Im wondering if I should take them back and get my money back. I live in the dry desert and there shouldnt be any moisture damage unless this shop got some crap primers to scalp customers with

They have been green for the last 5 years that I know of and as far as the price......where have you been? Your lucky to even find primers. There are none in the entire South East of Missouri. ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

Watson, I thought you were upset by reading your above entries into this thread, if you have been looking for 6 months you must be happy to have found any primers regardless of name brand or color. Gundog, Im familiar with what looks like a piece of "paper" looking thing under the anvil. Looks like a yellow piece under a CCI 200 primer anvil. My concern was green "spilled" or "Leached out" all over the anvil and sides of the primer side itself. I looked at some old white box WW pistol primers and can see the Tan color inside but also has a green "stuff" on the anvil. Maybe it is just a sealer they drop on there??? thanks for checking it out
