FrownerGot what I thought to be a stiff shoulder from neck turning over 100 7.62 x41 cases. homer

Went to the range today to test out some loads in my .358 x 404 IMP. Bad mistake !! After 20 rounds I bagan to think I might have a problem.

Switched over to the new Shaw 6.5 x 55 barrel. After another 20 shots I was in pure misery. It's really something when that pleasant cartridge punishes you.

Here is what little data I have to offer. Probably only Bwanab will be interested in the first.
  • .358 X .404 IMP single shot Mod. 98, Bell cases Wlrm. primers, 200gr. RN bulk bullets, 93.5gr. DP85., Mild, 3252fps.
  • .358 X .404 IMP, Bell case , 215 primers, 180 gr. psp bulk bullets. 84.4gr. 2520, Oal= 3.645, 3220 to 3293 fps., mild, 4 shot 5/8" group at 50 yds.

    Stevens Mod. 200, Shaw 24" barrel, 46.5 gr. H-4831, #34 primer oal= 3.017", CBC cases.
  • 140gr. HPBT. bulk, clean, 2720 to 2762 fps. 3 shot 1" group @ 50 yds.
  • 140gr. Hornady Interlokt, 2701 to 2718 fps. 4 shot 3/4" group @ 50 yds. Nice at 300 yds. thumbdown

Group sizes are not indicative of loadings; I was doing just a little flinching.

A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him "Why do you carry a 45?" The Ranger responded, "Because they don't make a 46."

Hey Bartsche, Was thinking about you last night after the news. Only thing worth seeing on it was when they showed a fellow standing next to a 319.6# Halibut hanging by it's tail.

What do you plan to hunt with the .358x .404 IMP? Looks like it sends a 200gr Bullet out quick enough to shoot rather flat too.

It was a bad day in 1955 when they made that movie about revenge for racism in WWII. Spencer Tracy as a one armed old man that can beat up Earnest Borgnine with karate chops.

When I designed it I of course was thinking BIG. That was prior to the Ultra Mags. Never did shoot anything with it and maybe never will. Take it to the range once or twice a year, but that's about it. It will and has put 250 gr. bullets out at a measured 3150 fps. Maybe some day I'll find someone who will shoot an elk with it for me.
