Hi Folks,
I was wondering if someone could look up and post the accuracy load for the .270 Winchester with the 140 grain SierraBTSP in the latest edition of the Sierra Manual?

I loaned out my copy about six months ago and it hasn't found its way home yet.

Thanks for the help,

HBB

If you are looking for the specific load you've been using in the Sierra manual, I can't help. But, if you want accuracy from almost any .270 rifle, I'd start with H4831 at 56.0 grains. I've had a handful of .270s and all would shot their best with some variation of this load. I once had a Savage 110 synthetic that would put 3 shots into far less than an inch with 57.5 grains and a 130 Nosler bullet every time (assuming I did my part). I've yet to have one that didn't like to shoot, and the deer I've polled lately prefer the .270 overwhelmingly.

IMR 4350 in the 54 to 55 grain range has always been a consitant accuracy load in most 270's with
130 grain bullets. Not as fast as RL22 or even 4831 in most, but a go to load.
IMO - if it won't shoot IMR4350 with 130 bullets, there is a problem with the gun.

I am getting excellent results with RL 22 with a 150 Nosler Partition.

hillbillybear,

I too don't have the Sierra Manual, but I do have three 270's. Two Model 70's and a Model 700. I shoot the Hornady 140 BTSP using 56.5 grains of H-4831 and a CCI-250 primer. My favorite Model 70 will shoot honest 2" groups at 300 yards and at 100 yards it stays between .65" and 1.0". As previously mentioned, you can't hardly go wrong with H-4831. Good-luck...BCB

55.0 grs IMR 4350 under a 130 gr Nosler Partition or Ballistic Tip. Consistently shoots 1 MOA or less three shot groups @ 100 yds. 22" barrel velocity is a bit over 2,900 fps...really no need for anything faster.

I've tried other combinations of 130 gr bullets and H4831, IMR 4831, Rel 19, Rel 22, N-MRP and WMR powders and none are as consistent and accurate.

coonass,

WARNING: Do not shoot a load with 42 grs of IMR 4198 and a 130 gr bullet in a 270 Win. The absolute maximum load is 35.5 grs.

Imr 4198 is an outstanding powder but unsuitable for full loads in the 270 Win.

I looked thru old Ideal handbooks and cannot find a reference to that powder and the 270 with full loads.

Thanks for the input folks,

I have settled on the 130 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip over 53.0 grains of IMR 4350 with Federal 210 Match Primers in Winchester cases

and

The 140 grain Sierra BTSP over 57.0 grains of Reloader 22 with the 210 Match primer and Winchester cases for my .270 testing.

I'll let U know how it pans out.

Thanks again,
HBB
