I've heard that I should stive to find .310 bullets for my Model rather than .311 or .308. I know from experience that milsup silvertip ammo and Wolf soft point ammo is too hot for my Model 44 (primers perferrated all the way through). Curiously, Sellier and Bellot 180-grain soft points seem to shoot reel good without obvious pressure signs. They mic out at .310. Who makes .310 bullets for the Nagant? What do you guys shoot in your's (both factory and hand loaded).

Barrel diameter on the Mosin Nagant 7.62X54R rifes can be anywhere from .310 to .313+. Really does pay to slug your barrel and see what you have. All mine shoot best with either .311 or .312 bullets which are intended for .303 British, 7.7 Jap, plus a few others. My 91/30 loves Speer .311 150 grain pills while my M38 does better with the Sierra 180 grain .311 ones. Check out http://www.gunboards.com/forums/ Post in the collectors forum and you will get some great info. Here's a link on how to slug your barrel. It's easy. http://www.surplusrifle.com/reloading/slug/index.asp it's a fresh wind that ... Blows Against the Empire

GaHunter Better check your firing pin protrusion, should be 2mm....may be the reason you are piercing primers.Arsenal strike on bolt cocking knob should be aligned with strike on firing pin.Can be adjusted when bolt is in fired position.Gunboards is the place for Mosin information. I agree that surplus seems a bit hot.Check out this thread. http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=5090.0 I also shoot milsurp.Like the Russian copper wash stuff but hate the lacquer coated ammo. Thus the reason I like the LeeLoader.
