Hot Core is now obsolete and being weeded out with the Deep Curl replacing it.
The Hornadies where always a better choice for accuracy IMO, but they both preform similar on game in the limited experiences I`ve had with them

The interlock and the cannelure both help to keep the jacket from separating from the core while Speer does not have this!

Speer used to be my go to bullet, they always worked fine for deer and such. But I tend to lean to Hornadys nowadays, for most of my rifles. I think that Hornady interlocks are typicaly a tougher bullet capable of better penetration.

Hornadys also have a fluted inner tip that keeps the mushroom a bit tighter, but opens up easily. Interlocks are a damn good bullet IMO.

I'm not sure there is a lot of difference in terminal ballistics. It was always pretty easy to get Hornadys to shoot, I never had as much luck with Speers. YMMV...

I Kinda figured Interlocks would get a lot of support. They seem to be hands down the most popular CNC bullet for HUNTERs.

I knew Hot Cors are being phased out but I've tested a few and they are really impressive. Wasn't sure what others thought or how they compared to Interlocks on game. I really like Hornady's line in 7mm, very extensive.

Hey Bwana, I like bof'um!

Hornady makes some Bullets which are really difficult to better, like their 35cal 200gr SPs and RNs. Just excellent Bullets for the cost.

The Speer 22cal 50gr TNTs still work well for me, but I understand from the Varmint guys that the 35gr Tipped Hornady bullets are even more fragile than the TNTs.

When you get into the Deer sizes of say 7mm and 30cal, either works just fine. I just let the specific rifle indicate which one it shoots the best and generally go with it.

Always fun to Test other Bullets though.

I believe, that overall, Hornady is better than Speer, but I have some guns that really like the Hot Core bullets.

As mentioned the Speer HCs are no more so if you like them get them while you can. I've used both the HCs and the Hornady ILs in deer and elk. Both work very well. I use the Honady's most often and the Speers in a couple rifles. No real reason other than the pick just happened to be what the load was worked up with. For example; in the '06 I could go with either the Speeer or Hornady 180s but I've started using the 190 Hornady SPBT of which Speer doesn't have a counterpart. However, the Speer 200 gr SP is an excellent '06 bullet for elk if the rifle has an action length and throat for them to be seated out so powder capacity is 100% to the base of the neck.

Not much difference between the two makes in the real world. Too bad the HC is no more and I hope the "Deep Curl" is as good for standard velocity cartridges (those under 2800 fps)
