Hi.
I'm an Norwegian "Gun Bug" and reads a lot of magazines about guns. I have the "Rifleshooter" and "Guns & Ammo" from the states too. I now consider to get the "American Rifleman" to, but have to join the NRA to get it. I have never seen the magazine, so I'll have to ask you guys; Do you think this is a magazine I need???
I belive I will never have any use of the NRA membership.

"American Rifleman" is a benefit of having a NRA membership. I do not feel it is superior to magazines such as "Guns and Ammo".

460Wby,

I am Australian and like many other Australians am a member of the NRA.

Is being a member of the NRA of benefit to you.

Yes

Just think how much of your shooting pleasures are either directly or indirectly dependent on what happens with American gun control.

Mike

As Mike said, I hope you elect to join the NRA and get the American Rifleman. I feel the mostly unbiased gun and gun product test reports are worth the relatively small cost of the membership and you will be supporting a good cause.

As far as good magazines go, you should definitely subscribe to Rifle, and its sister publication, Handloader, if you handload. And if you are into accuracy at all you should subscribe to Precision Shooting.

460: A couple of years ago, the American Rifleman underwent some editorial changes. As a result, I find it much superior to the previous product, with a wide range of gun topics covered, including a new emphasis on historic and military arms. I think it is now one of the best magazines going, along with Rifle and Handloader. And for those of you who may have let your NRA memberships slip, partly because of how uninpsiring the magazine was a few years ago, I strongly urge you to renew now. You will be very impressed with the new American Rifleman.

I agree, the American Rifleman is much improved over the last few years, and IMHO, Guns and Ammo has been a horrible magazene for going on nearly a decade.

I'd highly recomend Handloader magazene, probably the best of the bunch at the moment.

As far as quality publications goes, I will go as far as saying that Varmint Hunter magazine is easily the best of the bunch. Everytime I pick up a copy at the news stand, my head hurts a couple of days from trying to comprehend the technical articles.

Check it out. HTH,Dutch.

Im a German NRA lifetime member and know people from GOA and the TRT (Tyranny Response Team). Gun control is an international issue and all gun owners should be organized in groups like the NRA. The American Rifleman is a welcome bonus and IMHO one of the better magazines.
G&A lost much quality over the years, SOF is interesting and a good read.

460wby,
The membership and the magazine are well worth the price. You can also check out the other magazines the NRA offers, I ususally trade off every couple of years between the Rifleman and the American Hunter. You should also check out, RIFLE magazine it's sister publication, HANDLOADER, they have a website at www.riflemagazine.com. These are just a couple of my favorites.

Regarding the international gun issue situation, probably the most convenient publication is the (old) tabloid newspaper, Gun Week. It's about 36 issues a year, for about a buck an issue. Has a lot of short articles on what's going on in the gun issue, both good news and bad, plus technical articles and book reviews. Gun Week is affiliated with the Second Amendment Foundation and works well with most of the other pro-gunowner organizations.....

Hello Arild...another Norwegian and another Arild :0) Not to many of us here on Accuratereloading. Could use some more.
Wherabout in Norway are you ??
I joined the NRA last year in order to support the rigth to own firearms.
NRA are in my humle opinion, doing a great job lobbying the gun owners interest.
Their work have undoubtly an impact on US gun laws, and hopefully also regarding the UN small arms policy.
Currently I recive the American Hunter, but will change over to the American Rifleman shortly.

Regards Arild

Arild,
Hope to have you as a fellow member of the NRA. If you are also interested in Precision Shooting magazine, they have a web site with some sample articles. http://www.precisionshooting.com/
I have subscribes to Precision Shooting and the Accurate Rifle for a couple of years now and find them to be very enjoyable.

460,
In my opinion,Yes.
I have bought, and still buy,a lot of magazines, but the only ones that I keep are the American Rifleman.
I bought my first one back in November,1946,when it was probably the best magazine,of it's type, that was available. Over time,it became more political in nature, and the quality declined a great deal.I would not have recommended it back than.In the last year,or so,it has regained it's quality status, and is worth buying.
just an opinion,
Frank

Sorry about the headline.
I belive i got the etension here. I have just subscribe on a "combo"-pack with Rifle /Hunter /Handloader in one. And i look forward to recive some issues.
But when i was about to subscribe on "Precision Shooting" i found that other magazine to; "Accurate Rifle". I'm only intrested in rifles!! What is the main different between these to?? And, what should you guys choose if you only afford one of theme?? (It costs me $70 each.)
I would be thankfull for any advice.

I'm not to hot on the Magazines, but I do believe the organization is the very best gun owners protection available and I am a member of the NRA and allways will be....I donate continually to their cause..

The only thing they ever did was get down on WW senior and I quite them for two years over that, but finally came back...they just ran off at the mouth without thinking but now clear heads are prevailing with Moses in charge, so to speak.

WW senior quit the NRA because LaPierre, I believe, called the BATF agents "jackbooted thugs" after Ruby Ridge and rightfully so IMO. The Feds have settled for over $3 million for their part in the incident, so who was wrong? WW senior, I submit. Not to mention his inability to keep his word, "Read my lips", gave us 8 years of Bill Clinton.

As far as Precision Shooting vs The Accurate Rifle goes, I would definitely prefer PS. It is about accuracy and the accurate rifle is more oriented towards Tactical Shooting. Indeed, its initial name, now changed, was The Tactical Rifle. However, they both have good articles but if I could only choose or afford one it would be PS.
