I am picking up a 35 Whelen Classic this afternoon. I have 225 Nosler partitons on hand and 200 gr SP Hornadies also. My question is can you guys help out with some loads? I will use the Partitions as my all around load (deer/elk). Probably with RL-15 or 4064. What I am really lacking is some high speed loads with the 200 gr Hornadies. I want to try them on antelope since I get kinda bored with my other 2 big game rifles. I would love to see 2750 fps. I have seen 2800 fps listed but let me just say I do not fully trust the source. I know some are getting 2650 with 225 so I think this might be doable. Any help? thanx

i used 225gr nosler bt's in my whelen with 59.5gr of rl-15. fed std primers. groups in the .7s and averaged a little over 2700fps. i could get 61grs of powder in the case but i reached the breakover point at 59.5. start at 57grs and work up, your results may vary. good luck, i love my whelen. PLEASE EXCUSE CAPS, HANDICAPPED TYPIST. "THE" THREAD KILLER IT'S OK......I'VE STARTED UP MY MEDS AGAIN. THEY SHOULD TAKE EFFECT IN ABOUT A WEEK. (STACI-2006) HAPPY TRAILS HANDLOADS ARE LIKE UNDERWEAR....BE CAREFUL WHO YOU SWAP WITH. BILL

Your probably going the wrong way, down, with the 200's for Antelope. The small increase in velocity will be sacrificed in BC from the 225's. Run some drop tables to see for yourself. The Whelen seems to run best from the 225's up as far as performance goes for me anyway. I have never had a 200 load I liked. Only tried a few though and gave up. I have good luck with the old 225 Nosler BT's, 250 Speer, 250 Hornaday, 225 Barnes X.
