Load Density and accuracy

I am working on some loads for my 25-06 and have noticed that the load density is pretty low. I'm currenlty using IMR 4831 and R22 with 115 grain BT's. I getting average results, but nothing spectacular. I'm considering trying a slower powder that would raise the load density. I have a 26" barrel so a slower powder may work better. Has anyone tried R25 or IMR 7828 in the 25-06?

I am getting less than inch groups with REL 22 in the Sendero. The results with REL 22 were so good I stopped.

I have found that, in general, a case full of powder or even slightly compressed delivers more consistent velocities. This may or may not translate to more consistent accuracy, but it can't hurt.

I don't shoot a .25-06, but I have loaded a lot for a .25-284 using original surplus 4831 which is just a tad faster than IMR 7828 (about one grain difference in a case of '06 size, on average). I would think that 7828 would be an excellent candidate for your 25-06.

I've shot a .25-06 for many years and if you can't get good results with H (or IMR)4831 or RL22 I'd suggest you look thoroughly at the gun. Scope secured?...bedding?...guard screws?.....that type of thing.

I doubt seriously if slower powders will solve the accuracy problem.

I'm getting decent accuracy now, but I'm a perfectionist and am always looking for an improvement. To date, IMR 4831 has provided the best results with 100 grain bullets (3/4" groups), but it does show a higher standard deviation in velocity than I'm used to seeing in my other rifles. I haven't had enough time to fully test the 115 grain BT's, but I'm assuming a slower powder will work better with the heavier bullet. 7828 is also bulkier and should fill the cases better. I dont see a lot of load data for the 25-06 with 7828 so I thought I'd ask if anyone has a good load for it with 115 gr bullets.
