I'm still using my 450 and it works great. Parts are still available. I use it for all of my pistol reloading. Gulf of Tonkin Yacht Club NRA Endowment Member President NM MILSURPS

obsolete? do you mean can you get stuff like a case feeder and spare parts? or can you still buy a brand new one? then yeah they are obsolete. only because everyone is buying one and Dillon can't keep up.

Rich, if its a fair price buy it. Dillon has a superb (no BS service policy) + they make a great product + are quick to send you parts, etc. I love my XL 650. Lamar is right, they can't keep up with the demand. Never mistake motion for action.

As an addendum to that; I have my buddy up in Omaha who I talked into buying the new 750, but after being on hold for 45 minutes he hung up.( + that's unheard of from Dillon as their customer service is the best) So yes they are backlogged because everyone who knows quality wants this better mousetrap. If you haven't yet, buy it. Never mistake motion for action.

I have a 550B that I've been using for quite a few years. It's a great reloader. I can crank out 100 rds. of 45 acp in about 15 minutes. Buy it you won't be disappointed. Tom Z NRA Life Member

I agree - buy it. I bought an XL650 for a friend whom lent me a trailer for my last move. He already had a 550 and I thought I was giving him an upgrade but he preferred another 550 so I bought him that and kept the 650! Dillon makes a great machine for sure.

Not obsolete. It is a manual index machine but serious competitive shooters have loaded millions of rounds on them. Depends on how much volume you shoot.

If the price is right buy it. Be aware that to get the full benefits of a progressive you will need quantities of components. That is the problem now. My 550 has been sitting idle for the past year because no primers are available.

i've got one sitting unused probably 5 yrs old i only used for a year as arthritis got so bad in hands it hurt to push the star wheel to move the shellpate.and its easy to index! but i have lots of add ons (high mounting bracket, roller handle, etc) and lots of diff shellplates, powder throwers etc for diff calibers. bought an 1100 to replace it. not gonna sell it for give away. and yea i know thats the only way to sell anything on AR. i'm an old skinflint and you guys are worse than me!

John, you have a quality press, you should get a fair price. That's only reasonable. You have really upgraded with the 1100. I'm still happy with my XL 650, besides I would have to build another larger loading room as all of my counter space is occupied with presses + the cabinets full of components. chuckle. I have 4 550's and a 650 that'll eventually become a 750. yeah 4,,, long story. actually I'm just lazy and have them set up for each primer size. I also have a pair of their primer tube fillers, yeah once again..... I'm lazy. but it is nice to fill a 'set'[12 of each size] of tubes in 20 minutes and have a brick of primers ready to drop into any of the machines.

didn't plan on the 1100 but the ease of operation for my hands was a must. retired so output rate didn't matter. and my grandkids 9 and 11 can operate the 1100 and love doing so. under strict supervision and a powder check die.

A PAIR??? REALLY? do you also have a dog trained to tie ur shoe laces too? someone to chew ur food? can you tell i'm jealous? i can't justify ONE a them damn things. maybe.........i can get my DR to write me a script for one so as to lessen the wear and tear on my hands. i'll keep ya posted.

she can't tie them, but she can untie them. I guess 50% is better than nuthin... LOL. I probably have more money tied up in reloading equipment than I do in guns, heck my swaging stuff is pretty close to half what I got in rifles. I also cast my own bullets, make my own shot. the casting stuff is almost all commercial magma engineering equipment. by bullet sizers have bullet feeders and can knock out 1-K bullets in like 20 minutes. like I said I'm lazy, so it's taken me over 30 years to put it all together. now I can enjoy it and try to wear it all out.

I can relate; I also probably have more money tied up in loading equipment than guns too. I've toyed with the idea of multiple Dillon presses just to eliminate the change over operation from small to large or visa versa. But I'm out of counter space, so building a new loading room is more money than I want to spend right now. Never mistake motion for action.
