.35 Whelen. Help me. I need a precision recharge to test an rifle, beyond measuring your OAL and working them accordingly. Thanks in advance, Hector

Hello H....ctor,
What type of reloading components do you have available in Argentina?
What type and brand of 35 Whelen do you have?

Regards,
Bob.

When I had my TC Encore 15" 35 Whelen handgun I loaded a Hornady 250 gr. RN with 49.0grs of IMR 3031 and using a Federal 210 match primer. Was getting 1/2" group of bench at 50yds. with a Leupold 2x pistol scope. Ran it through a chronograph and was averaging 2100fps. out of the 15" barrel.

My go to load in .35 Whelen is a 225gr. Sierra or Nosler bullet and IMR 4064 powder. Accurate, effective on whitetail deer size game and easy on the rifle and your shoulder.

He's what I'd do with the powders available and 250 gr bullets Hector:

4320, 4064 and RL-15 are your best powders. I haven't used 4320, but use 57.0 gr of either 4064 or RL-15 with 250 gr bullets in a strong bolt action. Most reloading books will say 55.0 is max, probably due to the Whelen's use in weaker pump actions.

I've had several 35 Whelans, both std and improved versions. IMR 4320 is very hard to beat with 225 and 250 gr bullets. Very consistant accuracy with near top velocities. Just follow your loading manual.

56 grains of IMR 4064 has been my go to load with 225 and 250 grain bullets in The Whelen since the 1970's.

Good Luck

And just in case you haven't stumbled across any data, here's a link to Noslers:

I've been using 57 grs Ball C-2 with the Speer 250 gr bullet, I suspect the Hornady 250 will perform similarly. The Hodgdon site shows 56 grs to start and 59 grs maximum, it also shows Ball C-2 to be better performing than most of the other powders.
