Can I make 7X64 cases by firing loaded 280 Remington in a 7X64 rifle?

Some years back I bought 100 Remington cases headstamped 7X64, but were really 280 Remington. 50% of my first loads were misfires, there was too much headspace. What you can do is shoot a 7mm cast bullet with a light load of fast burning powder, making sure the bullet jams in the lands, eliminating the headspace problem. Or use 30-06 brass, which is probably cheaper anyway, plus the resizing to 7X64 leaves you a small shoulder on the neck you can headspace against. Wow, I just read "loaded 280 Remington" in your post. I wouldn't do that, you will get misfires and head seperations for sure. Pete [ 02-24-2003, 08:46: Message edited by: Pete Millan ]
