I was looking at either the RCBS Powderpro (made by PACT) or the Lyman Autoscale. The RCBS is around the $300 range, but the Lyman is about $180. The RCBS has a lifetime warranty. Dunno about the Lyman warranty. Anyone have any experience with these? Seems like they would pay for themselves in saving some time.....

Thanks.

I was considering the Lyman Autoscale also. The problem is it is designed for heavy coarse grained rifle powder only. They also advertise it takes several minutes to set up, (calibrate). I'm told by people who have them they operate very slowly. They do work as intended, however. The Lyman appears to be a better buy than the Pact. Bill T.

I have used the autoscale for about five years and have used about every powder there is. It does not need much calabrating after the first set up of leveling and adjusting the feed. It uses a balance beam that all the major scale mfg. have. it is slow if you only do one step. I seat abullet while the next load is being measured.
It is as fast as a powder thrower and a trickler set up with out a lot of fuss. I looked at the pact and did not like it the balance beam is much better in my opinion

I've used the RCBS electronic dispenser/scale combo for several years now and just love it. Now, it's great for rifle loading, but would be AWFULLY SLOW for handgun in any quantity. A consideration you need to be aware of is that your loading area MUST be in a draft free area, and I mean "draft free"... even your breathing if you are too close can effect the scale. Also, if you loading bench is located under a fluorescent light fixture, you may have to play with the location to find the right spot. However, this is a great setup, and if you are a perfection minded and not in an all-fired hurry, you will be very happy with it. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me... I've used it for a number of years and would be glad to answer any other questions you have about it... Dave

Thanks for the responses!

I am trying to see if the RCBS version is justifyably $120 more expensive. It certainly "looks" more high tech than the Lyman scale and has a good warranty with it. However, I like Lyman and have never had probs with their products.

I have the RCBS scale and dispensor setup and I like it alot. The auto trickle feature works really well and frees up some time to do other steps as well. It is faster loading with it and less work because of the auto trickle too. As the unit warms up it affects calibration as indicated in the manual, so let it warm up for about 20-25 min then recalibrate before starting. As it warms up it seems to indicate charges are weighing more and more than they really are by about a tenth grain every few minutes or so. In about twenty minutes it will stabilize reading about .5 to 1.0gr higher than it really is. Plan ahead so it's stable when you are ready start weighing things up and it won't change after that.

I paid $135. and $165. for both if I remember right.
