Need Dummy 416 Rigby send to Lee....

I'm in Europe and want Lee to make a Factory Crimp Die for the 416 Rigby for me.

They ask for a Dummy round in 416 Rigby - because of the base diameter being .589 and their limit of .550 for the standard production, they insist of getting a dummy round.... [Frown]

I'm only starting to get all my reloading gear in place, so I'm not ready to make one, and to send it to the US will be a nightmare on its own... [Mad]

So please would anyone send in a dummy round to Lee for me??? [Smile]

Does someone have an idea if the shape and lenght of the bullet for this dummy will matter?

I wonder why they don't have dummy 416 rigbys on hand or do they need one made from my dies?

Cheers

Franz

1. Answer from Lee:

I'm sorry, I looked up the case in Cartridges of the World and discovered that we cannot make it. The base diameter of the Rigby is .589 and the max base diameter we can make a crimp die for is .550. Anthing larger than that would make the collet too thin and not viable. Sorry for the confusion - I must learn to look things up before I speak.

2. Answer from Lee:

I better quantify - we can make it and have made them but it's not one we are comfortable doing because the collet has to be thinner than we would like. If you want one, send in the dummy cartridge and we will do it, but it simply isn't a caliber the custom dept is overly comfortable with.

3. Answer reg. my order:

I spoke with the guy who makes the custom Factory Crimp dies, and he told me he would not make one without a dummy cartridge, because of the tight dimensions mentioned in earlier messages.

Franz-

I would like a Factory Crimp Die for the Rigby as well. I'll send a dummy round and have two dies made. Send me your address so that I can have them send you the die when it is finished. Also let me know who you spoke with at Lee so I can take up the conversation with them.

I almost certain, I read on these forums about some guys who have had Factory Crimp Dies made for the 416 Rigby. If anyone else wants a die made at the same time send me an email and I'll place the order. I'll try for a better deal if we get enough requests.

Thank you very much for your help!

The customer service has my order details already, I'll email them that you will send a dummy. I'll refere to your name and tell them to use your dummy round for my dies.

If you get a better deal, but I think we need to be in the hundreds for that, I'll send you my details or tell them about my order over the customer help-desk or to contact me on my email Franz@Holzer.com.

Thank you very much! [Smile]

Forrest B I would be inerested to I could send you a money order.

But will the dummy suffice for all the different loads say you, I and Day dreamer will be using ??

For instance my load utilises 410 gr woodleigh SN's. And will it work for different types of Brass ??

Can it be adjusted for different loads is what I am trying to ask.

Regards PC.

They dies are dependent upon the case length, and will accomodate various bullet configurations. I'll be sending them new Norma brass with a 410 grain Woodleigh softpoint (not that the bullet matters).

I'll post the specifics of the deal as soon as I hear back from Lee.

I sent Lee dummy rounds for a 35 Whelen, 416 Rigby, 458 Lott, and a 460 Weatherby. They sent the Weatherby back (it was too big) and the crimping dies for the other three in about a month. Those dies are greatness!

I had Lee make a 416 Rigby crimp die for me last spring and they were very accomodating. I sent them a seated bullet in an unprimed, empty case and had the die in a couple of weeks. I also use their crimp die on the 416 Rem. I have my crimping die set up in a separate Lee "C" press, another step to be sure but well worth the trouble for me. The die does an excellent job and holds very well.I have crimped using the seating die as well but it just doesn't give the kind of crimp I like on the heavier calibers. I haven't done it yet but will also crimp my 375 and 338 just to see how it works. If I can be of assistance please let me know via email. I still have the 416 Rigby shell. It's topped with the new hornady 400gr solid.I have the 416 Rem ready to go to Tanzania in early Sept with Barnes "X" and monolithic solids. They shoot very well and the POI is within an inch of each other at 100yds. Very pleased with the results. Now all we have to do is shoot a couple of Bulls.

Mads,

The Lee Factory Crimping die is like none of the others. The Lee has a floating collet that makes uniform case length unnecessary. The roll crimping process on the other dies (Redding, RCBS, etc....) run the risk of collapsing the case walls. I've done it! It really hacks you off when it happens on the rarer and more expensive brass. The Lee Factory Crimping die is mandatory for anyone that crimps their reloads. Get one and if you don't agree, I'll give you your money back!

Here's the message I got from Lee:

"We sell them at regular price ($11.98) if you order 25 or more. Could you e-mail Mr. Holzer and ask him to re-send his 08-06 message? It was accidentally deleted. Thank you.

patrick"

I'm not too interested in getting into the crimping die sales business, but if we get 10 buyers they would be $30 plus shipping, 15 buyers would pay $20 plus shipping.

Interested parties should let me know ASAP. I'll be sending them the dummy round tomorrow.

Franz remember to resend your email to Lee.

I'm ordering three dies.

Franz and PC, I'll see if they will ship your dies directly to you with your credit card number.
In case they can't ship, please email me with your address and I'll ship your dies to you. Then I'll email you with the exact amount you can send to me via a check or money order.

The dies will be $25 plus shipping.

I'll keep you posted.

Daydreamer and PC-

I spoke with Patrick at Lee Precision again today. He said 4-6 weeks for delivery.

If anyone else wants a factory crimp die made at the same time, let me know as soon as possible and I'll add it to our order.
