Will a 6mm work in a 700 SA?

Hello,
I have a Remington 700 short action that I want to build off.

I know that you can use the short action as a single shot, but will the bullets be too long for the magazine to use it as a repeater?

I am wanting to use this as a coyote/deer gun, so the single shot is out of the question.

Or should I just go with the .243?

Thanks

I don't believe a 6mm will but a 7-08 will. Its a round that is vastly superior to either the .243 or the 6mm.

Yes , a 6mm will fit in a Remington short action . I have a factory Classic in one sitting a few feet away here . A .257 Roberts or Improved Roberts will also work .......

It sure will. One of the most accurate factory rifles I ever owned was a M700 Varmint Special (wood) in 6mm Rem.

I now have a "semi-custom" (re-barrelled) 6mm Rem built on a M700 S/A, works great.

I stand corrected.............. I had a SA that I wanted to rebarrel and was told that by a smith. I still like the 7-08 idea tho.

Thanks for all of the posts.
Why do you read so many posts about people who say you can't do this?

Does it not work well with longer bullets?
Do you think that you can put a 100 grain bullet in the lands and still fit it in the magazine?

Thanks

Tunacan, I do not know where all this crap about a 6mm Remington not working in a short action came from.

Hell, I learned to shoot with an old 722 Remington chambered in .244 Remington that is the same darned thing. It worked well with everything we fed it. We killed an awfull lot of ground squirrels and rabbits with it and another twin to it that my dad had. We also killed a hell of a lot of deer with those guns, we just used 85 and 90 grain bullets because of the twist rate in the barrels.

I have a short action Reminton 700 in the safe right now chambered for 6mm Remington and it works just fine, thank you. Hell, it has had LOTS of gunsmithing done to it, but it is the most accurate rifle I own, period!

You know, they sold an awfull lot of 257 Roberts and 7mm Mauser's in the same actions, did they not work, either?

Come on guys, this is a bunch of baloney.
I would much rather have a 6mm Remington in a short action than a 243 Winchester. The Remington has the edge in performance and barrel life has proven to be much better than the .243's.

I have another short action Remington sitting here that is now a 22-250 AI, it has a VERY worn out barrel (over 4500 rounds) and I think I will make another 6mm Remington on it.
