K9 what you want to do it's a 9,3 x 64 with a belt , the case of the 9,3 it's the same of the 358 NM with out a belt ( just check measures front of the belt ) , just rechamber to x 64 and you'll have a powerfull 9,3 and not as expensive as a wildcat , also it have a resale value , as a wildcat just few SKR ..... K9, Why not do something with the 8x68 mm case as a base? I own a original Miller & Greiss 9,3x63 based on the 10,75x68 case, (not the same case as 8x68) I will try to get it back to life even if it will cost some money.. /Husky

quote: No, no, no... The neck would be too small! A .358 NM necked up to 9.3 is commonly referred to as a .366 IH. IH is a fellow who lives in Nordmaling, between Ume and rnskldsvik. A couple of the swedish posters here ows .366 IH's, Christer A. being one of them - I also think he knows this IH (Ingemar H-something) personally. Might be worth sending an e-mail off to him. -- Mats

A gent named Norman G. Tonn wrote an article for Handloader's Digest a few years ago regarding the .338 Win Mag necked up to .366. He called it the 9.3 American or something similar. This is very much like a .358 Norma necked to .366, though the Norma brass will have a longer neck. BigIron

Husky, you beat me about the 8x68S case. Seems I am working too much and no time on the net ... As for the original question: if you are happy with the 9.3x62, keep it, and buy another big bore ( CZ 550 in .416 or .458 bored out to Lott? ) The 9.3x64, as others have said, seems a good choice. If you are really speculating: Case base size : Mauser ( 9.3x62 ) Have fun! Hermann ------------------

Hi Sorry for not answering sooner! Ive thought a lot about the matter but havent reached any real decisions yet. I admit that the 9,3x62 is definitely good enough as it is and while shooting at ranges up to 250 meters no more velocity is needed. As I have two 9,3x62s I thought I would take the action from one of them and do something else of it, something that would be both fun and usable. I therefore intended to chamber one of them to 458 Win mag and the 9,3 Wildcat would be, sort of, an intermediate step on the journey. After having read a lot here and elsewhere Im not so sure about the 458 road. The 404 does sound more and more attractive. The action most likely to be converted is a ZG 47 (large ring variety) and the possibility to cram three rounds into the original mag (with some modifications as told by Husky in another post) coupled with the fact that it would be possible to down size .44 Magnum bullets to .423 (according to Fred Zeglin), does make it a strong candidate. Its history and classic status dont exactly make things worse It aint easy to trying to use up all your thoughts and ideas while just being allowed to own six guns. Cheers

Because of stupid Swedish gun laws!! And that include shotguns! See Ya
<K9> |
tsturm bendtsen summed it up quite good. The Swedish gun laws arent very liberal. In a first stage (after you have taken your huntersexam) were allowed 4 guns (to use for hunting rifles, shotguns and combination guns). After you have gained some experience or have special needs you can get two more six guns all in all. This last decision is much up to the individual who is assigned the task (at the police station) of approving/denying the license applications and possibilities/requirements and for getting the last two guns varies a lot within the country! Every time there is a shooting with illegal arms the government goes after us!!!!! There has been suggestions that hunters dont need more than three guns The woman at the local police station once stated that nobody needed more than four guns she KNEW that because her husband hunted??? Sweden might be a little paradise when it comes to the rather diverse hunting we enjoy (so far) but when it comes to guns its close to hell! K9
