I would like to find a good practice/hunting combo. I want them to fly as close as possible so I can do a lot of shooting with the cheap stuff for the majority of the year and then fine tune my shooting with the premiums when it gets closer to "show time".

Does anyone else do this? I'd be punching paper the majority of the year with some varmint hunting mixed in and hunting deer-sized game during the season. Any experienced recommendations on bullet weight/type would be appreciated.

My cousin and I do a lot of paper shooting. He has a mod. 77 Ruger hunting rifle that he does exactly what you want to do. I got him 1K 130gr. and 1K150gr. bullets about a year ago at a truely low price and he's been making small groups with them both. The hooker is Igot them from either Graf & Sons, Widener's, Natchez,Mid south or Midway. Just keep exploring their web sites. You'll find something. Now if you have a .308 or 30-06 go to Golden West. roger

In my 270 WSM, I found that my point of impact stayed almost the same when I switched between 140g SST's and 140g Barnes TSX WHEN I used a max load of Retumbo powder. They jumped about 6" apart when I used MagPro.

If your largest quarry will be deer then look no further than SST's/Interbonds.

It depends on what your rifle likes and how it shoots.
I've got a .280 that shoots the 120 gr. Nosler BT into the same group that it shoots the 120 gr. XBT.
In your case, I'd look at the 130 gr. bullets from Hornady, the standard flat base Interlock and the InterBond would probably work, but only your rifle can really determine that.
I've found that in some rifles, even different powder charges shoot the same POI. My 2500 fps. paractice/fur load shoot right with my 3200 fps. XBT load in the above .280.
You might try the 110 gr. V-Max as a varmit load. They shoot extremely well in my .25-284. E

You don't need an expensive bullet in a .270 win to kill deer. Just buy some 130gr bullets and shoot.
