Has any one used AA #9 for .44 magnum? If so what kind of results did you see? | ||

VV, I did go through about 1/2 pound with different bullets and primers and just couldn't beat H110 and W296. That all was done in my S&W Model 29 with 6 3/8 barrel. Did not try in Marlin. Smedley, Thanks bud. I have just found some AA # 9 very cheap and want to know how well it works. I currently use H110 and love it. I was curious to see if AA # 9 can stand up to the Heavy hunting loads I produce with H110 and Heavy LBC's. | |||

It is a great powder in the 41. Probably a bit to fast for max loads in the 44. It is about one grain faster in my 41 than 2400 The Lord Bless You Terry | |||

.223VV, Several people on the Gunloads/Cast Boolits site are using the milsurp version, WC 820, in the .44mag. with cast bullets. They've reported: 22.6gr. + 245gr. gas checked CB -> 1,389fps; SD = 25. 19.0gr. + 300gr. truncated cone CB -> 1,260fps and grouped into 2" @ 50 yds. Neither said whether they used LP mag. primers, however, but it's the better way. Btw, milsurp WC 820 varies [by lot #] between AA #9 and H 110 in burning rate. | |||

AA#9 has worked very well in two 629's (6" and 4" barrels). Using WWbrass/primers, hardcast 215SWC's and 23.2gr=1459fps, hardcast 300TC's and 18.5gr=1241fps. Both did not exhibit excess pressure signs, but sensed that the 300gr load was max. Gonna try AA#9 and 800x in my 10mmAuto next. Deke. | |||

It's very close to 2400 in burn rate so for max. loads in the 44mag I would stick to H110/W296. I shot a lot of AA #9 behind the Lyman 429421 in my 629 Classic. I used 18 grains, never chrono'ed it, didn't see the point. Nothing was going to stop that hard cast bullet anyway. And I have also seen where a heavy for caliber bullet in front of #9 causes it to somehow slow its burn rate, giving excellent groups w/o excess pressure. I don't understand how, but it does it just the same... | |||
