I am new to the whole reloading thing but a buddy that has reloaded for a while is going to help me get started but he has not reloaded for the 300 Weatherby so I have a few questions. I was thinking of starting with either Retumbo or Re-25 for a slow powder and am wanting to load either 150 or 165 gr bullets since I will mainly be hunting whitetail and punching paper with these loads. I would prefer to use 150's but I have been told the barrel on my Sako 75 has a twist that is better with the 165's and larger. I am thinking about using barnes x, hornady SST Interbonds, or sierra gamekings. Starting all this off with Hornady brass and Fed 215 Match primers. What do you all think, any suggestions welcome? Also what kind of velocities should I expect out of my 26" barrel? Thanks, Ryan

Weatherby uses Norma MRP on their factory rounds and recommends H-4831 also. I think you need to stick with the strongest bullet YOUR rifle shoots accurately and whatever you do DO NOT use Sierras. jorge

Here's some loads my Sako 75 .300 Weatherby likes:

Powder: 84 grs. IMR 7828
Bullet: 180 gr. Swift Scirocco, 180 gr. Speer Grand Slam, 180 gr. Hornady FBSP, or just about any 180 gr. bullet.
Brass: Norma
Primer: Fed 215M
Velocity: around 3200 fps

Powder: 91 grs. H1000
Bullet: 165 gr. Hornady SST
Brass: Norma
Primer: Fed 215M
Velocity: around 3200 FPS
*Note: actually at 87 grains the accuracy is at it's best and velocity is about 3070 fps, which is more than enough for any whitetail.

I prefer IMR 7828 to any other powder I have tried in the .300 Wby. It just seems to be very consistent and gives good accuracy and velocity with just about any bullet. I have not tried RL25 or Retumbo, however. I have tried RL22, but I don't care much for it.
