Any suggestions for bullet weight for a Ruger #1 .22-250? Twist is 1:14 and I don't have clue as to where to start.

I don't know if they're "best", but I have very good accuracy with either 50gr or 55gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and either BM-2, Varget or RE15.

One hole 5 shot groups are not uncommon when everything goes right, and the accuracy stays for quite a few shots too!

I would give them a try, but I bet everyone else has their own opinions on what is "best"!

Cheers.

I use 50 gr bullets in my 22-250 1-14 twist, 50 gr Berger match and 50 gr Sierra Blitz Kings. Both bullets are very accurate, the Bergers are my coyote bullet and the Sierra's are for gophers and other vermin that I prefer to turn to red mist!

I know you didn't ask about powder, but I use 41 gr of H380 for the Bergers and 39.5 for the Sierras.

I have also used 55 gr Sierra GameKings to harvest a nice 5x4 Buck. They also grouped well and provided enough umph to get the job done!

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you're shooting Ghogs where you might get just a few shots per day or if you're shooting for pure accuracy, I'd use either the 52gr or 53gr Sierra match bullets. Ones a flat base and ones a boat tail. Some rifles show a marked preferance for one or the other. Buy a box of each 'cause it'll take some fine shooting to determine which on is best for you.
If you're planning on doing some Pdog shooting where you may get 100's of shots a day, I'd buy the cheapest bulk 55gr bullets you can find from Remington or Hornaday or Speer. Some of them are surprisingly accurate. I've never shot them but I understand those Dog Town bullets from Midway are pretty good.

I shoot 22-250 in ruger pretty regularly and have found great luck using Sierra 53 grain flat base matchking bullets. These routinely do 1/2" groups fro me even using the ruger factory rifle. My experience is that the Ruger #1 runs sloppy on internal dimensions of the chamber....so I seem to always get best results if I am shooting a reload from that exact gun. I shoot RL15, Varget and H-380 with RL15 probably showing the best results.

hope this helps....

Speer 50g TNT with RL15. I'm pushing them a little faster then speer recommends, but with a 1:14 twist they stay together.

CoolClue #1: Start by trying the 52 gr fbhp Berger with perhaps a 39.5gr. load of Acc. 4350 on a paper target. You may have a little problem at first, getting that much powder in your cases but if you try hard you can do it. space roger

Bartsche, what kinda velocity are you getting? I got good accuracy with I4350 but couldn't get anywhere that much in the case. No, I didn't use a drop tube; No, I didn't stop halfway thru and tap the case on the table. Smiler
I reccomend H380 for the 22-250. You can get good accuracy and velocity and it works like a dream thru a measure.

55gn Sierra HPBT, and either Benchmark or Varget give excellent accuracy in my 22-250.
32.6 gns of Benchmark, or 35.5 gns of Varget.
Bullets seated .010 off lands. Fed 210 Primers.

popcornAvg. velocity just under 3700 fps. 10 shot 1" group at 100 yds. EekerMy notes indicate this may have been a little on the hot side, but on an older 22-250 this seemed just fine. Just a judgement call.

With 37gr of H380 and a 55gr VarMintNiteMare got a 4 shot 1" group at 100 yds. 3550 fps. flameroger

Woody,

I have had good luck in my Ruger M77V 22-250 with 40 gr Hornady v-max and 39gr Varget...

Also try 55 gr sierra sp over 36.5 grs H-4895..

Approach above loads w/caution etc etc

+1

I recently switched from 55 grain NBT to 50 grain NBT and like the additional speed. JMHO
