since many load their 9.3x74r double rifles with 65.0 grains of imr 4831 i am planning to try this load in my chapuis 9.3x74r as well. i thought i would begin with around 62-63 grains and work up. i have 286 grain hornadys federal 215 primers as well as wincheste large rifle.and 2lb of imr 4831.i have read where so many of you have had your chapuis doubles shoot so well with this load i am looking forward to trying it.anyone know what the pressure is with this load.also which primer would you recommend. my range is 100 yards.thanks john

As I posted elsewhere, 4831 is a very slow powder in the 9.3 and I have not had good results with it; my rifles all prefer 4350 or RL15. The pressure of 62 grains is low; start there and see what happens. 4831 will kick more than faster powders so sometimes this helps with regulation; no way to tell until you do it. I use mag primers.

thank you dpcd for your response.since i have no sense of the pressure of 65.0 grains of imr 4831 with the 286 grain bullet it is nice to get the advice of those that have.the 62 grain starting point sounds fine so well see what happens.tho it may be april before i get that opportunity.also you recommend the mag primers so i will start with the federal 215 as this is all i have.thanks john

Norma lists a starting load of 60.5 and top load of 64.5. And that is a compressed load, so you cant get too much in to do any harm.

again thanks dpcd i didnt know that 64.5 grains imr 4831 was a compressed load.it would seem the case is about as full as it could be then around 65 grains which i have read so many use.safely apparently.also with the long collumn of powder i can see where the federal 215 primer might be helpful.thanks again john
