Hey guys. I'm new into reloading and wondering if anyone has worked up a load for 150gr SST in a .300 win mag. The powder i have is H4831, but I guess I'm open to a new powder. Seems everyone likes the RL22 for the .300WM? Thanks in advance for any help! Ben

try H-4350 and work up to 74 grains. you should be about 3,300'/sec.

I'm not sure that bullet should be driven that fast. I've always used a standard interlock for the 300 mag.

Thanks vapo. I don't have a chrono....something I should think about investing in? I realize this particular bullet may have a tendency to "blow up" at higher velocities...this is kind of what I'm hoping for Big Grin. Thanks again!

Hey bernie, your problem does not lie in reloading but common sense. Why would you want to shoot a fragile and ballistically inferior bullet like that out of a 300wm?

shootaway I do not have a problem, was simply wondering if anyone had any loads "cooked up" for the bullet. no problem yet, and not looking for criticism on my bullet choice, thanks.

well the bullet might be okay for training on the range but NOT for hunting big game when shooting 300 win mag. I must say that even though you don't want to be critized for your bullet choice.

Thanks for the advice wire. Thats the kind of criticism i can handle, the helpful suggestion. Not the "now why would you want to do that?!" kind of criticism. Thanks for the reply.

In answere to your question, I have used 80 grains of H4831 with a 150 grain Hornady. That load averaged 3299 on my Chrony.

I could not get the accuracy I wanted with H4831 in my current M70 with several different 150 grain bullets. In another M70 300 WM (long story) I used 79 grains 4831 with excellent results.

For accuracy I currently use Rel 22 with either 165 grain Hornady or 180 grain Swift.

My .300 Winny kicks and screams if I use anything except 180 or 200 grain Nosler Partition or North Fork bullets with RL-22 and Fed 210M primers. If I use the Fed 215M primers my groups enlarge considerably. Just my .02 worth. wave Good luck and good shooting.

300 Win Mag, 150 SST, works well w/ 66 grains of H4895 for 3200-3250 depending on the barrel.

Absolutely terrible for deer, would be great on varmints. Really explosive. If you want a bullet that will make big entries, and penetrate little, this is it. I can imagine it would blow a huge hole in coyotes.

IMR 4350 works well too.

R22 will make them hum, I shot em' around 3300-3350 w/ R22 but, didn't have very good accuracy. Never got around to lowering them to 3200 w/ R22.

Didn't try the H4831 w/ that particular bullet but, I can imagine it would be very similar to the R22 loads speed wise. I really like H4831 for the 180, 190, and 200 grain pills.

Have a Good one

I use Hornady Interlocks for range work. All game has been harvested using 180 grain Swift A Frames on African Plains game. Excellent Results.

The 150 grain Hornady's were what ever was sold in 1962, they worked well on small Black Tail Deer. Sure wish I had that M 70, as I recall 3/4 groups were common.

Most of these rounds will just be used on paper, since there isn't much else to shoot around here this time of year. I'm just kind of looking for a round that is going to be able to essentially blow up a yote just in case one happens to come around. thinking about using the sst on deer next season, but may switch up to a 165gr for that.
