Did a little work with my savage steven 300 win mag yesterday. I hunt in wisconsin woods and rarely get a shot at deer less than 100 yds. I wanted a "meat saving" light load that could be fun and accurate to shoot. I saw a load in the lyman manual using 47 grains of re7. According to Quick load it was to fill the case about 62% and be doing 2650 at about 39k pressure. To make sure there wouldn't be inconsistant ignition I tilted the cartridges down before loading and shooting to get the powder away from the primer. Of course the gun had to be held level so the powder came back to a "level" position in the case. Anyhow the loads all chrono'd within 10fps of each other at an average of 2658fps (150 grainer) and shot 1-1.25" groups. Looks like my big mag is now a sweet .308 and gives me alot of flexibility. Just thought I'd relay the load for others to try.

Kraky, sounds interesting, I would love to have loads stay within 10 fps, thats great! It's great to have a light load that shoots well.

Kraky, did you consider using a filler like Puff-lon? Wouldn't a filler eliminate the need to manipulate your cartridges and rifle in a specific manner? _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

I've not play with fillers. I only use data that I find in books and I assume they are safe loads without the need. I did the "cartridge tilt" just to satisfy myself that there wasn't too much airspace that could play games with ignition and it sure didn't seem to be a problem.
