No, I'm not having problems with the "ex"... but there was a raccoon stumbling around here this afternoon. that needed dispatching. I guess I could use the .22 Marlin, but the scoped Contender just looks cooler. Anyone have a favorite light load for the .44? It will be used at about 5 feet, so accuracy is optional. 800-900 fps is fine. Thanks

Stumbling around in the afternoon ? Sounds like rabies. For quiet I use RWS subsonic hollow point accurate and effective.Other than that any 44 special loads or buy Winchester Silvertip which will expand at 750 fps.

Collins: 8-9 gr. of Unique with a 245 gr SWC cast bullet has always been a favorite of mine. Low recoil and very accurate in my Smith 44's. Its quieter than heavy loads but I wouldn't shoot one of them at night if you live in town. The velocity is in the 800 to 900 fps range. knobmtn
