I want to order one of these for a .32 H&R mag I have. Lymans makes one specifically for the .32 H&R and S&W long but it is meant to size for .312 bullets. I have a rifle built with a .308 bore and want to load .3o8 bullets. I see Lyman offers a short .308 and Long .308 die. The specs say the short will fit cartridges uo to about 1.95" or so. I called Lyman to see if this would work and never really got a clear answer. Instead they suggested I use their die made for the .30 mauser. I know the expanders are supposed to be interchangable so I'm confused as to what to order. It seems then that the real difference in product numbers is the size/length of the die body. I'd like to be able to use the .308 short die since I could also use it on my .30-30. Any input would be appreciated.

I may not be much help here but I own a few "long" m dies. I think the mandrel is the same but the body of the "short" die will let you get the mandrel closer to the shell holder and thus you can use it on your short cases. If I had to make a recomendation I'd say get the one for the 30-30 (maybe call them and be sure the short die has enough room to get the 30-30 into it) and see how it works on your other caliber. Hope this made sense.

You may have some luck purchasing the Lyman M-die body for the [short] 7.62 x 39mm round, but with a .308" or .309" expander directly from Lyman. Btw, the normal .30cal M-die can be used to expand metric necks larger than .309" (up to .314") and as short as 53mm (the Arg. Mau. case for ex.). Hope this helps!

Thanks for the replies. I decided to order the die for the .30 Mauser as Lman suggested. My immediate concern is loading for the .32 H&R. I'll try the die on the .30-30 and if it works great, if not, well, I'll order another. I hope there all they're cracked up to be. -M
