What's the best way to remove a stuck case from a FL die?
Thanks, Kelly

IMO, the best way is to use a stuck case remover. There are other methods, but this tool is simple and foolproof. If you do a search here I think you find a few "other ways" to accomplish the task.

I haven't had to try it yet, but I read that putting it into the freezer works well.

Step #1; Use those words that keep the wife and kids away to give you room to work, for badly stuck cases do it twice

Step #2; Throw the die with the case in it against the wall several times to help "loosen the case".

Step #3; Repete step 1 to chase the dog off that wants to retrieve the die when thrown. Slobber doesn`t work as a case lube.

Step #4; Pop a cold one, take a deep breath, and assure the nice officer you haven`t lost it and the neighbors have nothing to fear.

Step #5; Get a RCBS stuck case remover.

Although probably not a preferred method, I have in the past with an RCBS die...

Unscrewed the primer punch/expander ball from the top of the die,

Adjusted the expander to its fullest length with the nut all the way at the top of the screw,

Keeping the die in the press and the decapper pin in the primer hole of the stuck case, hit the top of the screw/nut with a hammer.

Crude, and potentially damaging, but worked in a pinch.

Just get a stuck case remover. Everybody needs one ONCE. Then when you have it handy, you'll never need it again. It's kinda like a good luck charm or a insurance policy.

Took me 15 years to need a stuck case remover.....but they work really well. Just get the RCBS one and don't risk damaging your die getting creative!

Cheers,

Dan

Drill and tap the case with a 1/4" tap, use a 1/4 bolt and some washers, screw the die back in the press and using the bolt and washers unscrew the case from the die. Easy and no cost if you have a tap and die set.

Took me over 20 years to need one and needed it twice in a month but not since. Was the middle of the night and i didn't want to wait till the store opened and drive 30 miles to buy one.

Thanks for the help. Made my own puller for less than $5, works as good as a commercial one.

Absolutely, yes!

I use "remington33 " method !. I drill the primer hole out size depends on caliber of case ( Less having the primer in it ) put an easy out on it . I use a heat gun on the Die , twist and out they come . I tried resizing a 375 H&H without lube ONCE !. I don't recommend that , talk about STUCK !.
