I just received my on sale Moly coated bullets from Midway. What is the deal with the Moly coating? I got the 150 gr for my .300 win. I realize that is a lubricant, Is there anything else I am not seeing? I am going to load some today and see how they shoot. Is this a "barrel wear" thing or a "go like hell thru the barrel" thing? Thanks Windage and elevation, Mrs. Langdon, windage and elevation...

to shoot moly you need to clean the bore really good making sure there is no copper fouling! Next you need to lay down a coating of moly in the bore. you can try using some moly and a patch and coat the bore or shoot approximately 50 rounds or so. this will prep the bore for shooting moly bullets. moly will reduce friction and reduce velocity. After you have shot these for a while some things come to surface. I have shot upto 150 rounds with out cleaning and had very little change in accuracy. A slight carbon deposits at the throat of the chamber and should be brushed out ever so often. I use a mix of kroil and shooters choice to clean the bore.

God help you if you don't start with a really, really clean bore. You will have screwed the pooch if you lay a layer of moly on top of copper and/or powder fouling. Most folks, including me, have come to the conclusion that moly was just a fad and seem to gravitate back to plain ol bullets after awhile. My 2 cents.
