I just got my first set of Hornady dies (450\400 NE) and there is a small retaining ring at the base of the seating die. The retaining ring\clip extends through the sidewall of the die body. I would think this would cause scratching of the cases. Does it? Do I need to file back the ring\clip so it doesn't extend as far into the die body? Used to RCBS dies and none of mine have this clip. I suppose bigger cases could perhaps have an issue but my dies for regular .473 bolt face stuff do not scratch. You can only try and see what happens. Good Luck Cheers, Jason But what do I know?

My complaint is that over time as the insert drops against the clip, the hole can elongate. I have had one die already where the hole elongated enough to simply drop the insert out while reloading. Hornady sent a new die body. The clip makes it very easy to drop out the inserts for cleaning without having to change the die setting, particularly on non-Hornady presses.

Finally got my shell holder yesterday and tried reloading a box. Didn't seem to scratch the cases as I thought it would. The retaining ring did slip off once though. Hope this isn't a indication of what is to come. DRSS Sabatti 450\400 NE Merkel 140-2 500 NE
