Back in early 70's I noticed if the bushing was removed from my Rock Chucker that the press would accommodate a die large enough to do shotgun shells. I wondered if that was the purpose. So I wrote a letter to RCBS and to my surprise got an answer from Fred Hunnington himself. He said the hole had to be larger and then a bushing used to facilitate reaming of the hole for the ram. He did say that my idea of making shotgun dies would work but wasn't practical. He went on to explain that if an item cost him $15 to make, by the time it reached the consumer the price would be $45 and for that money, a person may as well buy a shotgun press. Back then you could get one for that price. Now RCBS does make shotgun dies?? I did have a set of dies made up and shotgun shells could be loaded but it was a slow process and they didnt always turn out the best.

Cool, old press. It would look good cleaned up and repainted in the original green (assuming the were green back then). The upstroke would get old real quick, I imagine. As an aside. Would it work on the downstroke if you were in Australia? Hunting: Exercising dominion over creation at 2800 fps.

This is probably a dumb suggestion, but I wonder if anyone at RCBS would like it as a piece of their history? xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere. NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR. I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

I talked briefly with RCBS about the press and they said nothing. Oddly...a fellow form Herters...Ken Neeld...knew more about it than did RCBS. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ J. Oh, and the press is cast STEEL, not cast iron. Member: Orange Gunsite Family, NRA--Life, Varmint Hunters' Assn., ARTCA, and American Legion.
