My son is moving to CA. He may well be there for a while. He is currently stationed overseas. I am keeping his guns. It looks to me that CA has a ban on lead for hunting. That's a shame, we have a great load worked up with 140 Nosler BT/AB with Varget.

So while I have his 7mm-08 I plan to work up a load for the Barnes 120GR TTSXBT. Bullets are on the way, brass is ready. Barnes data shows Varget as a good choice. I have plenty of it. I also have w748 and RL15 on hand.

We chose the 120 over the 140 based on the length of the bullet and possible shorter bearing surface.

Anyone on here loading the 120GR TTSXBT in 7mm-08? Willing to share any info?

I think the 120 TTSX is a good choice for Calif. Success rates are low and the chance of a shot 250 to 400 is significant, so a little velocity is important, say 3000 to 3100. My wife filled her first Calif tag last Nov with a 110TTSX in .270 Win at 3350fps.The buck was lying down at 208 yards and never moved after lung liver spine exit. The little 110 grain monolithic was plenty.

I am using this combo very successfully. Try 47 gr h380, works for me.

Somewhere between 44 to 45 grains of RL-15 will be your sweet spot, which is well known for this caliber and bullet.

Yo trigg,

I made the same decision based on the same criteria you're stating for a 7x57R; while not the same cartridge, certainly in a similar class and the 120 grain Barnes TTSX works perfectly. Accuracy is A+++, terminal perfomance is very good.

The 7mm-08 may be different, I didn't like the grouping with 120-grainers in a 7mm Remington and stayed with 140 grains.
