My Dillon 550 came with one conversion plate, and it is the best reloading tool investment that I have ever made. Dillon stands behind every product he sells 500%, with customer satisfaction a real #1. Their telephone support is excellent too. My only complaint about my Dillon is that it is so habit forming, once I get started reloading I tend not to stop until I have run out of something, cases, bullets, primers. They are Very Addictive! Have fun.

Well, it turns out the dealer (gun, that is) isn't a Dillon dealer, he just got one in on trade, and hence he doesn't have the conversion kits. Dillon informed me it was his place to take care of me, so it looks like I will be having to buy a kit to make it go vrooom. So much for getting a good deal, eh? Oh well, live and learn.

Anyone got a .40 cal conversion kit they no longer use for sale?

When I got mine, it came with a caliber conversion kit. I just had to specify which one.
They make a magnum charge bar for the powder system if you plan on loading anything that'll take more than 60gns-ish.

If you load a few different calibers on the same case head, then they sell just the powder funnel pieces for the powder measure.

I've had mine for over 10 years and love it.

You could call dillon and tell them that you just bought it but it didn't come with the kit. They may send you one??

When I was a Dillon dealer, the policy was a conversion kit of your choice comes with a new press. You get everything but dies. Because of the selective nature, the kits are not packed in the box with the press. Maybe your dealer just forgot to include it.
Their warranty is truly "No B.S."
I would give my customers parts from my demo stock to replace their broken or lost stuff. It didn't happen often, but all it took was a phone call. Any customer can get the same service direct from Dillon.

I just bought a RL550B today, even though I was leaning towards a 650. I got a good price on it, NIB, and thought, "Why not?" I am not relaoding a large number right now, so figured there was no need to start off big.

My question is this: Does the caliber conversion kit come with the 550, or does one have to get it from Dillon? Because the box doesn't have one that I can see (the box had been opened, and was sitting on a shelf for a while, judging from the dust on the top). All other components were in the bags, and it wasn't used, but I didn't know to look/ask for the shellholder, funnel, and buttons until I compared notes to the Blue Press, and on page 12, it says "Comes with one caliber conversion". Seems to me like I shoulda gotten that, right?

I guess I could ask Dillon about this, but thought I'd get an answer from someone tonight who has one already.

TIA!

I've had my 550 for about 18 years, but as I remember when I ordered it from Dillon I had to order the shellplate separately, so you may need to get that, the spacer thingy for the powder measure, and extra toolheads if you feel extra wealthy, I think they are a good thing to get for each caliber. The primer stuff should all be there.

Have fun!

Any particular dies recommended? I like the idea of the Dillon carbide process, but for those of you using the Dillon presses, I was wondering if they make that much of a difference.

Do you use Dillon dies, or any other particular brand you recommend?

TIA!

Any standard dies will fit any Dillon press other than the Square Deal B. Always use carbide dies in a progressive press to eliminate the need to lube cases. This is usually not possible for bottleneck cases. Dillon sizing dies are chamfered at the mouth a little more than standard dies which will allow you to load a bit faster but do not resize quite as far down the case. This has never been a problem for me.
The zillion rounds I've loaded on my 550B always ran fine.
I don't have anything for .40 I'm willing to part with, but I have new unused dies and a conversion kit for 9mm and a strong mount and bullet tray I don't need. PM me if you're interested.
