I just got some of these to try in the 8 Rem Mag but am having a time locating load date. At present I'm using Alliant Rl-25 and Fed. 215 primerswith Hornady 220's. I'd like to find something for the 250 Woodleigh's with this powder and primer that gets me to or near 2800 fps. Thanks. -WSJ

I sort of answered my own question by emailing Woodleigh the same inquiry. Here's what Geoff McDonald sent me in reply: "To use our 250gr SN in your 8mm Rem Mag Rem 9 1/2 M or Federal 215 primer 67 grains RE19 for 2520 fps 70 grains Re22 for 2560 fps 74 grains RE22 for 2700 fps 84 grains H870 for 2560 fps 86 grains H870 for 2780 fps 72 grains H4831 for 2670 fps. This bullet performs best with an impact velocity of less than 2700 fps. If shooting heavy animals at close quarters, I suggest you load to around 2500 fps." Some good, usable information but unfortunately doesn't include the RL-25 that I thought would be a good poweder (and still might be). The other thing that surpised me was the intended impact velocity of 2700 fps or less. The factory loaded Double Tap ammo with the 250 gr. Woodleigh is listed as 2850 fps from a 26" barrel Rem. 700. Which is what made me think that somewhere around 2800 was a realistic velocity for my 700 Classic. -WSJ

what sort of ranges do you intend to be shooting?

Shoot, I never shoot at anything over 200 yards! And if I'm carrying that rifle with the 250 grain RN bullets my intended range would be open sight range for most people. Very probably the biggest thing I'm really likely to shoot with it is a hog; the more likely thing will be a whitetail, which of course has exactly no need to be killed with an 8 mag of any loading, but it's the most likely target. Range will not be over 150 regardless, and probably end of the barrel to 40-50 for pigs. -WSJ
