Do DEWC's crack forcing cones?

Seems like I heard somewhere that double ended wad cutters will crack the forcing cone on a revolver. Do they? Anyone heard of this? I'm getting ready to put together some loads for a small frame 38. I've got some 148 grain DEWC's that I've had forever. I think I've been letting them sit because I heard somewhere they could damage your gun. I'ld like to find out the truth to this so I could either use them up or melt them down into something else.
I'll be using a light charge of Bullseye.
Thanks.

Never heard of it.
When you think about it, you are just throwing a lead slug really fast at a cone.
Even if your cylinders are really out of alignment, the worst it would do would be to deform the bullet, not break the gun.

I have a S&W Model 10 that was accurized by Oggie Pachmayer some 80 or so years ago and I have shot lots of wadcutters, semiwadcutters, and whatever other lead bullet shapes there are through it without any problems or cracking or anything.

158gr wadcutters and 3gr of Bullseye is a very common load for plinking or target or whatever.

a hollow base wad cutter can leave part of the base in the barrel area if the load is to hot. Maybe thats what your thinking of. double ended wc should be ok

Never heard that one before and I have heard a lot of stupid stuff.

I usta shoot in a PPC league. Standard load was the .38 Special WC. Maybe 150 people in the league and they averaged at least 5,000 rounds a year each. I shot about ten years and never heard of a split forcing cone.

Must be reasonably safe.

I used to shoot on a pistol team for a casino in Las Vegas and we shot 5,000 rds. a month between practice and matches. In that time I've only seen one cracked forcing cone and that was with HBWCs. I don't believe a soft lead bullet could cause a split cone. I'm sure that mine was a defective barrel. At any rate the guy that built the pistol replaced the barrel without question. It probably helped that I had just won a national trophy with it but he replaced it none the less. Jim
