The brass I have seems odd. The brass is headstamped 450. 90 degrees on each side is what looks like a kangaroo, and opposite (ie. 180 degrees are the letters BB. The primer pocket is too small for a large rifle primer (ie. my primer pocket cleaner will not fit), but too large for a small rifle primer. What do I have?
Thanks, Peter.

It's brass form Bertram of Australia. I used to load it in my .45-110, trimmed of course. It should take a large rifle primer. When you say they won't fit are we talking a lot or just miss? Try RP 9 1/2, I use them in my RWS brass because the pockets are very tight.

Peter, what you have is Bertram brass and it is shit quality. The rims are often too thick, case head too thick, rims not square, primer pocket way off center, flash hole too tight, brass too soft, etc.

You might contact Huntingtons to see if they have the brass you need made by Horneber.

Good luck with it.

Peter,

I agree, throw that stuff away and get some quality stuff. I've had nothing but bad luck with that stuff myself...

Cheers,

Rich

Fredj338. My first try, after being able to resize 4 of the 8 cases (see other thread) was to clean the primer pockets. However, as I mentioned, the cleaner (and uniformer, Sinclair tool) wouldn't even fit in the hole! I have used a diferent tool (RCBS) to clean the pockets, and it is very tight. I use Rem 9 1/2 magnum primers as a rule anyway, so your suggestion is a good one, but it doesn't fit ie, didn't seat all the way. I am afraid to force it as I don't want the damn thing igniting! I have no idea what was used before. I'm sure it was reloaded, but I have no idea what primers were used. I may try to enlarge the size of the hole a bit.
Peter.

500grains. I believe that I saw the Honeber at Huntington's but I wasn't sure how good it was.
I will try to get some.
Peter.

Bertram is so uniformly un-uniform that I would make sure I had a way to guage the thickness of the bottoms after you ream the primer pockets. It could end up so thin it blows the whole thing out.

Not just one to check, measure each one as variations occur in the same batch.
