Bought a couple of WC 846, 8 pounders, which were delivered Friday. Loaded up some 7.62x54R ranging from 43.0-47.0 grains behind a 150gr. bullet. Went out Saturday. First five shots were duds. Primer had a nice hit, but the powder didn't ignite. Powder looked fine with no clumping. I used a CCI-200 large rifle primer. I had some IMR-3031 loads and fired them in the same gun. Perfect ignition. What's the problem here??? Bad lot of powder??TIA for any help.
Did the primers drive the bullets from the cases into the barrel? I've been using a lot of WCC846 with no problem < !--color--> YET < !--color--> Roger

I just went over some of the results I had with WCC 846 in the 358X404. One round was 200ft/sec. faster than all the rest (wlr primers). Also with 2 different loads using std. rifle primers there were at least 1 slight hang fire in each. I felt all this was a matter of too much powder for a std. rifle primer. Now I wonder. roger

Many recommend using magnum primers for Ball powders generally. Ball powders have the reputation of being harder to light and burn consistently as loads are reduced, as well.

Unfortunately, yes. I'm guessing about three to five inches. After cleaning up the mess five times, I just set the other fifteen rounds aside to disassemble. I've used 748 with no problems. Also, I just finished shooting up 32 lbs. of WC 852 (slow) and never had ONE misfire using the same primers. FRUSTRATING, to say the least.
