Bullet seating depth question??

The Nosler reloading manual recomends seating your bullet at .015-.030" off of the lands and states that sometimes lighter bullets will need to be seated a little deeper. Anyone have any differing opinions about this or is this a good place to start?

I'm working on loads for my T/C Encore .223.

Thanks

.03 is a good starting place if you can get it done.

if your workin up a load. i start at a around .010 to .015 off the lands
find the charge i like that gives the best groups and then adjust the seating depth
Some like it close, others like a jump.
with the short bullets it hard to get them to the lands i like to seat " one bullet diameter into the case"
It will hold the bullet good.

I mean that some guns have the lands so far foreward that you can't get the bullet anywhere near them to srart.

It has nothing to do with your skill or ability...it has to do with the way your chamber was cut.

Thanks for the carification Vapodog. I didn't think you were questioning my ability, just didn't understand what you meant. Thanks again for the help. I'm what you might call a rookie reloader just looking for good advice. Thanks again.

I'd find a seating depth that my rifle liked and then adjust charges and bullets. Kudude
