Finally I got the rifle in .300RUM, Remington 700 LSS.
I've always praised ability of this cartridge.
I need your help,
I am starting to develop good load for 200 grain bullets.
I want to use it for moose and black bear.
Right now, I have 200grain Trophy Bear Bonded Claw, Sierra Game King and Accubond.
I use Sierra for breaking the barrel and to start working on the loads, but my primary hunting bullet gonna be TBBC.
For those bullets I have H4831, Re22, Re25, AA3100, and most likely I gonna get H870 from my friend.

Now, please tell me which powder works best in your rifle with 200grain bullets?
What is the load you use?

Thanks for any comments.

Peter

H-870 From 87.5 grains to 110.0 grains
Remington 9-1/2M Primer

But it is a discontinued powder...unless your friend is going to give you a lot of it, a whole lot, I would suggest
RL-25 From 76.0 grains to 92.0 grains
Federal 215 Primer

Excellent choice in caliber.

I have been recently posting similar questions. Lucky I've been to the range. Here's what I've found:

Obviously start with minimum loads per load data.

For 200 grain bullets that I've used (Accubond, Partition, Barnes), I had the best results with Re 25, H1000, and RETUMBO from Hodgdon. However, IMR 4350 was amazingly accurate but 200 fps slower on avg. BUT I mean damn accurate, some of the best most consistant groups I've ever had. I use RP brass, WLRM primers.

The Accubond was incredible with the Barnes 200 Triple Shock a hair bigger in groups, 1/2" and 5/8" respectively. The partition was about 3/4-1" groups.

Bullets are so argueable in what is 'best' but you have the right idea by asking your bretheren hunters. That is exactly what I've done, even though my range experience is pretty extensive.

But, let me finish by saying this, out of all the bullets and speeds, that damn Barnes never ceases to amaze me. That sucker made the biggest damn hole in this old archery target that I've ever seen, which tells me that it does EXACTLY what Barnes says it does, opens up within an inch or so after entry. The Accubond and partition made exit holes in this old material about the size of a golf ball, which is more than plenty, but those barnes bullets made holes more than twice the diameter.

Remember, when the barnes opens up, those 4 pedals still spin real fast and they act just like a razor sharp blender cutting tissue like a scalpel. They are just hard on the bore. Good luck, all 3 will do what you want I'm sure. But really take a look at Re 25 and Retumbo!!!

Thanks for your help.
So far Re25 doesn't work to well in my rifle.
AA3100 is the most accurate and H4831, but I gonna load more for next time. I've started with Re25 88grain and wasn't too good, now I went bit up and down 87 and 89 grain.
Primers; I use Federal 215 and I have CCI for magnums.

I will keep you posted.
I hade to fiz the trigger on my Remington. Factory pull was heavy, around 7 lbs, I've droped down to around 4 lbs.

Peter,

I'm sure you know, but some rifles can be very finicky when it comes to the powder charge. .5 grains too high or too low and it won't shoot really well. Some rifles just take a lot more time and a lot more loadings with certain powders.

I don't know first hand, but a lot of guys rave about the 200 accubond with RL25. Go to longrangehunting.com and ask some of those guys about their good loads. No doubt experienced people will help you out there.

Thanks Shilen,
The reason I ask is to find out quicker and to save the bbl more. This is hunting rifle and I dont want to dwell for ever on the loads. I gonna be happy with consistency at 200yr.
When I gonna see groups around 2" x3, I rest.
So far I am getting there with AA3100 and H4831, but still working on Re25, and most likely gonna try H870 and maybe Retumbo.

I want to have that rifle ready for August 15 when the bear sesaon starts.

Thanks

Peter

My 300 Rum prefers Retumbo. H870 & Rl 25 are good but Retumbo is better.

mine will do .25moa with 88gr H1000 and a 200gr SMK and .200- with retumbo and the 216gr clinch river. Although mine is far from "factory",..the loads have proven themselves in others rifles. I would use the 200gr accubond and H1000, RL25, and Retumbo. I have the 216gr pill moving at almost 3200fps with retumbo!!!!

My Savage 116 300 RUM likes 77 grains of IMR 4350 with the 200 grain accubonds. I get a chronographed velocity of 2840 fps.

PP, don't give up on the RL-25. If your gun isn't showing signs of pressure yet, push it up a bit (I believe max for a 200gr bullet is 92.0gr). In my Remington, I shoot the 180gr Partitions over 94.5gr of RL-25 with excellent results. They really tightened up the faster I pushed them.
