I put together a load last night and tested it today, It throws shot 1 about 1.5" left shot 2 and 3 are in the same hole about 1.5" RT of shot 1, then shot 4 goes into the same hole as shot 1, I did this on both groups I testrd and both shot the same way. the rifle does not double group other loads, what in the hell could cause this, I like that it puts bullets in the same hole I just want them all in the same hole if I can, I am wondering if I could be on to something and some how my loading technique or something is causeing this

in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC

fishingI have had that happen a couple times.

The first was a batch of bulk 55gr. FMJs. The points came in two flovors of sharpness ; one point radius was far more blunt tha the other. When segragated much of the double grouping disappeared.

The other time it was more than two groups. Those were 150gr. bullets whose weight varied from 147 to 152 gr. When segragated into .5gr. groups each grouping did all right.

The double grouping has also happened where I could not detect the cause. beerroger

I have had this occur in an otherwise very accurate A-Bolt .243. With many loads it shoots nice triangular groups, but with some shots 1 and 3 are same hole or touching, but shot 2 is 3/4"-1" away. Also, there's no consistency to whether the second shot is high or right. But the second shot will usually be high or right, though I recently found a load that puts the second shot low.

I have no idea what causes this. Could it be a bedding issue?

I have experienced this type of grouping and associate it with (1) differences in priming to include clean versus uncleaned pockets; (2) lubricant in the case neck; and (3) differences in neck tension resulting from differences in brass use. Kudude
