My Hornady #4 does not have VARGET but the start for IMR4064 is 36.1 grains for 2200 fps and the maximum is 40.8 grains for 2600 fps. Test rifle had a 18.5" barrel, Remington brass, 2.025" trim, Remington 9 1/2 primers and the COAL is 2.83"

Hodgdon #27 has a 7-08 load for the 139 grain Hornady and IMR4064 of 38.3 grains to start and 42.5 grain maximum for 2835 fps. Test barrel was 24", Remington brass, 2.025" trim, Remington 9 1/2 primers and COAL is 2.8"

Hodgdon #27 has a 7-08 load for the 139 grain Hornady and VARGET of 40.5 grains to start for 2721 fps and 43.5 grain maximum for 2877 fps. Test barrel was 24", Remington brass, 2.025" trim, Remington 9 1/2 primers and COAL is 2.8"

FS, I believe the max in the Hornady manual is 42.3 for Varget. Loaded the same bullets for a model 7 a few years back and went with 40.5, first 3 shots went .505", quite impressed with that model 7. Jay
