The thread concerning WCC844 throwing flame from a 22-250 caused me to go into my data. here are some findings.
  • Wcc844 and WCC846 have always been sooty, cause big BAROOOMS and throw a lot of flame The WCC846 being the greatest contributor. I found this to be true on a fair number of rifles not just 22-250.
  • DP 74 has given nice results but has had 1 or 2 shots 200 to 300 fps. faster than avg. with recognizable high pressure signs.
  • SP 7625 gave some surprisingly great results with 55gr. Varmint Nite Mares and VNM extremes. low velocity was with the VNMX and 11 grains of 7625 (1920 fps,)The high velocity was with the VNM and 12 grains of 7625(2215 fps.)
  • Accurate 2520 seemed to give the best overall results in this rifle.
  • Some really good results were achieved with 50 grain TNTs & 55 grain VNMs pushed by varying loads of Acc 2015.

Bart, I've had very good results with W760 in the 22-250, but as a double based ball powder, it does throw large fireballs when used in the .270 Win.
