Well fellas, I'm having issues with my scales, so I'm wodering if with win brass and LiLgun powder, in your exp. does 13gr pretty much fill the case with about 1/16 of an inch to spare?

There is a clip on reloading the .22hornet on you tube, the chap uses 13 grns of lil gun and it pretty much fills the case to the top.

Yes, it does. Tap the case side and it will settle the powder a bit. Remington brass is thinner so it has more room in it.

I use small pistol primers for ignition, a 45gr bullet and 13.0grs of Lilgun in my Ruger M77. I get about 2875fps, and excellent accuracy.

We don't see alot of Remington brass here but RWS won't even begin to hold that amount and a Guy here uses a Lee Crimp Die to hold the bullets in after that.

Best we've seen here in a long time is Winchester brass that will at least hold that quantity of powder. I lightly hold the full case on the lid of an operating Vibrator (the type used for cleaning brass cases) and that will settle it a tad more.

Enough so that; if you want to see a load really cook - try that W-W Super Hornet case with 13.0 grs. of LiLgun and top it off with a 35 gr. Hornady V-Max. You only need to seat the bullet just enough to compress the powder. Nifty 22 Hornet load.

I load 13.2 lil gun in Win cases.
Tapping on the side of the case settles the powder enough.

Yes. I'm using 12.6 grains of Lil Gun and getting just a little space to set the bullet on top.

Great minds think alike .....

We've been playing with different 22 Hornet loads for for years; the Teutons really know how to put accurate 22 Hornet ammo & rifles together since it's a VERY popular & extremely accurate target catridge over here.

RWS brass very consistant and well-made lasts a long-g-g time with reasonable loads. Their factory 22 Hornet Match ammo with their proprietary 46 gr. Jagd/Match Hornet bullet (Dunno if they're offered in the States) is ususally the default load for thumbnail-sized groups out of just about any resonably well assembled 22 Hornet rifle.

We began loading the W-W Super 22 Hornet brass 'cause of it's capacity (in our opinion good brass, too) because we wanted to try the 35 gr. V-Max's. I'm currently loading 2 SKU's for two rifles - only difference the RWS & W-W Super brass with corresponding reduced charge in the RWS brass.

The best primer we've managed for the job is either the RWS #4033 primer, which is specifically made for Hornet & .222 Remington or the less expensive but in every respect just as good Remington 6 1/2 primer. The use of the Remington 6 1/2 primer put to rest the constant dickering about Small Pistol/Small Rifle primers debate in the 22 Hornet for us forever. Other's experience & opinion will certainly vary but that's been our finding after thousands of Hornet rounds. You may want to give them a shot (pun intended).

Net, the W-W Super brass, with 13.0 grs. of LiLgun, a 35 gr. V-Max and a Remington 6 1/2 primer adds a whole new dimension to 22 Hornet fun. Easily accurately attains 3000+fps although the RWS brass w/their 46 gr. J/M bullet is loaded to the stadard 2550fps Hornet velocity. Either way, good, accurate ammo.

On Running Boar targets the 22 Hornet with a 35 gr. V-Max depicts a substancial velocity increase vs. standard Hornet loads as the amount of lead to whack the 10X ring is cut down to about the same amount as with a .222 Remington.

Oh, Yeah, using the "More-of-the-Same; Has-to-be-Better" Syndrome - tried the 35 gr. Hornady V-Max's in .222 & .223 Remington also. Wow! 3900fps and a .5" group outa the .223 Remington. Bullet has the B.C. of a Ping-Pong ball but nevertheless spectacular 100 meter performance. Foxes carry like a jug of water because when you retrieve them they slosh on the insides. Gives a whole new meaning to DRT.

IMO Hornady has a real winner on their hands with this bullet!

Your high/low chrono readings should still be there. With Lilgun, I've noticed that the heavier the bullet, the lower the SD.
