Hello all, my first post here and i feel i should warn you I've come looking for answers to questions both stupid and bizarre.
the picture is of a cut down .50 bmg rd. with a dia. of about .79", but my question is ....
"Is it possible to reload a full brass 12 GA shell with a similar exposed slug ?" so that it would look similar to the picture or maybe like a .22 on serious steroids?
I've never reloaded but I'm interested in getting into the hobby if this project is possible.
Any thoughts?

First of all you need to know that if the wrong people see that thing here it just might get hauled to Africa to shoot Cape buffalo.

Now to your question.....There used to be full length brass cases for the 12 (and other) gauges. They might still be available somewhere and you could machine them if necessary but it's possible that "ballistics products" in Minnesota has them. try www.ballisticproducts.com and see what you can find. Only use hollow slugs designed for use in shotguns and watch the wadding requirements but if you cut down the brass case and properly loaded the powder and then got someone to make you a crimp die to crimp the brass case around the slug it would look a whole lot like your photo.

I frankly think you got rocks in your head but that's what it's all about sometimes.

I think that the pressure would be too high for a brass shotshell. Neck that 50 BMG case down to .729" and you could sling 12 gauge slugs with style, speed and authority untill hell won't have it.....

Just use our 12 Gauge From Hell case, that we make from BMG brass by putting rim on it.
It is 3.85 inches long, and could be shortened,
but it is designed so chamber will fire regular
2 & 3/4 in shotshells also. And it has the rim for good headspace which the case you show in picture doesn't have. Here is picture of 12GA FH
case next to a regular 12ga case.Rob,fritz454, and myself are putting guns together to test
and develope loads. Getting brass made also.
And plan on having extra. Brass will last
dozens of firings, being made from BMG cases.Check out 12GA FH
in the big bore forum archives..ED
