OK, I like and my rifle likes 50.5grs. of Varget with 150 Ballistic Tips, Rem. brass, CCI 200 primers. Also have loaded 57.5-58grs. H4350 with 165 Hornadys, 210M primers, Rem brass, have proved to be very accurate. Jay

I have loaded the 30,06 for years and several different rifles. If you are hunting smaller critter deer anitilope black bear and such, pick your 150 or 165 grain bullet and try IMR 4350 or IMR4064. There are other powders that work well , RL-19 H-4350. H-414, But I have recently been playing with RL-22 in my Model 70 classic, and the results make me turn my nose up at either the wsm or the rsaum. With 64 grains of RL-22 Have had good results with 150 and 165 grain bullets by many makers. This is about all the powder I can fit in the case without using drop tubes and such. It is safe in my rifle, I would sugjest you start at 62.5 and work up with 165s. IF you try thisl load let me know how you do ! ...tj3006

My pet load is 48 grains of IMR 4064 with a 165 grain bullet. I've had good luck with Sierra bullets and just recently tried the 165 grain Nosler solid base with this load and it shoots equally well. I've always used CCI 200 primers with this load.

Go to the latest Nosler Reloading Manual - some of the Re22 offerings look very good. 61-62 grs for the 180s and 63-64 grs for the 165s should work quite nicely for hunting.

I like the 150gr. Ballistic Tips for deer and 180gr. partitons for moose, elk, and bear. I normally use IMR4350 powder and Federal brass and primers and get some pretty hot ballistics from those rounds.

I would take the following load hunting anything in NA except for big bears;

168 Barnes Triple Shock over 55.0 H4350, WW or Lapua brass, and Federal 210 Gold Medal primers.

This same rifle also takes Federal Factory 165 Ballistic tips and puts them into 1/2" groups 4 of 5 times with 3 shots.

But that TSX bullet is devastating on flesh. mgun

56.5 grs of IMR4350 under most any 165gr bullet will give excellent results in any of the '06's that I have.

My 30-06 loads:

150 grain bullets: 61-62 gr's H4350
165 grain bullets: 58-59 gr's H4350
180 grain bullets: 57-57.5 gr's H4350

WW Brass / Fed 210

My 168 TSX load uses 58.5 gr's H4350 seated .050" off lands for 2,855 fps in my 21" barrel. Nicely accurate and am looking forward to using it on game this year.

Current Load is 57 Grains of H380, WW Brass, Fed 215 Primer, and 150 Nosler Accubond for ~2940 fps 12' from the Muzz.

Also like 49 grns of H4895 under the 150 Accubonds for 2950 fps (22" bbl).

150 SSTs over 49 grn of H4895 was Accurate as well but, really explosive on deer sized game.

180 Hdy SPIL over 59 Grns of H4831 is a Good Shooter as well.

All the above loads have been Sub-Moa out of a Factory 22" tube.

IMR4350 also works well w/ 150s and 165s.

Good Luck!

I use 56 gr. of IMR 4350 with a 165 gr Sierra HPBT. This combination works great on my rifle.

I like and use 58.5 grains of IMR 4350 with Nosler's 165 grain ballistic tip. This will break 2800FPS in my -06s.

H414 is a great one for velocity and will break 3100FPS with 150s in the 30-06, but like 130s in the 270, it leaves gaping holes.

But a gaping hole is better than no hole. Wink

Many years ago when I carried a 30-06, it was my favorite grouse hunting weapon....No, I am really serious. Idaho does allow the use of centerfire rifles, (or just about anything else for that matter) for hunting mountain grouse.

The rifle was a Win 670 and the load was a 165 Bal Tip or a 165 Speer BT over 60 gr of H4831 with a CCI 250 primer.

The load was accurate enough to take the head off of many a grouse out to 80 yds, and dependable enough to harvest mule deer with one shot kills for many years. It took two rounds, though to put a cow elk down for good. (Dam balistic tips)

I used this load in many other rifles and used it to supply hunting partners with ammunition, this combination never failed to please (except in autoloaders).

My rifle's most accurate load is 61 gr. RL 22 under either a 180 gr. TSX or Northfork. This load gives me 2780 fps and .5-.7" groups. IMHO the 180 gr. bullet gets the most out of a 30-06.

I like 46 gr. of 3031 behind a 180 gr. bullet. It is accurate in all 3 of my '06 rifles.
